Each day we share a big veggie dinner together, which is included in the rates, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to meet everyone. This place is absolutely delightful! It is definitely not your average hostel but I loved it and wished I had more time to spend there. It has a wonderful sense of community and the staff and volunteers are unbelievably welcoming and kind. It was a little hard to find, but once I got there it immediately felt like a home away from home. Everyone was friendly and engaging right away. If you appreciate sustainability, community, interesting surroundings, and lovely humans you will love it!

This hostel is truly one of the best ones I’ve stayed at! Staying there is more like living in a community - always nice music playing or even live music, breakfast and dinner are delicious, vegan and home made - everyone cooks together! I guess it’s true that this hostel might not be for everyone but I if you’re an open-minded person you will feel at home instantly! You can really see that the people working there enjoy it a lot! The only negative thing was that the shower is very weak.

Cool hostel and great value for money. Really nice that you get a communal breakfast and dinner included in the price. Everyone is really friendly but maybe I wouldn't recommend staying here if you don't smoke as most do and it creates a bit of an awkward atmosphere.

One of the most unique and pleasant hostel experiences I have ever had and may ever have. A quick overview of the kind of traveller I am for context. My main priorities when finding a hostel are value for money, atmosphere, and potential for meeting good hearted people. This is the kind of hostel that has all of those things. I met incredible people and the vibe is very relaxed and fun. This is truly a special place for people looking for a down to earth hostel experience with amazing people.

A really great community that's off the beaten path. Make sure you bring cash to pay the hostel fees.

    Very Good

The type of place you go for the lifestyle & to stay a while; a laid-back community amidst food gardens, chickens & pigs, plentiful outdoor/indoor hangout spots (for musical jams, yoga, art, chilling). Accommodations are basic & straightforward (dorms/bedrooms/camper vans). Toilets & showers could be much improved in both quantity & quality. Highlights are homemade vegetarian communal dinners/breakfasts! Cute cats for company. Short tramp from a train station; a bit far from Auckland centre.

    Very Good

This is not your average hostel. It felt a bit like returning to a student hippie house - could be great if that's your vibe and you're there long enough to make good friends but for the one night it's no good. Dinner was good and breakfast lovely - mostly vegan! Coffee in the morning was two dollars though... Everyone is also allocated a job after dinner - I like that but just a heads up these can be clean the dishes or prepare breakfast for the next day. Oh and the grey cat is the best!!

Not a great experience. Had a very hippy feel to it. No reception. Indoor shower had no pressure at all, washing my hair in the sink would have been more effective. There’s an outdoor shower as well but no hot water. The bed sheets smelled like campfire smoke and the mattress was concave with not much padding, just springs. The cost includes breakfast and dinner, but it’s vegan only and dinner is served at 9pm. Wifi stopped working as well. Otherwise everyone was very nice and welcoming.

If you're a member of the hippie/traveller/wwoofer/non-conformist community, you'll probably love it here. You'll meet your kindred spirits and love the vibe of the place. For the rest of us it is, I'm afraid, a squalid dump of a place. The common areas are grubby and I dared not look too hard in the kitchen where the evening meal was being prepared. The toilet/shower/washing facilities were, to put it mildly, primitive. If you're a regular backpacker, I would AVOID at all costs!
