Property Description

Free Cerveza is a fun glamping hostel located right on the beautiful shores of Lake Atitlan. Our awesome lakefront property overlooks 3 of Central America’s most famous volcanoes - San Pedro, Atitlan and Toliman.

In order to provide and maintain our summer camp vibe, each guest will be charged 33Q per night so that you can enjoy unlimited use of Free Cerveza’s activities and equipment. You can sunbathe and swim off of our private docks, enjoy unlimited use of our stand up paddle boards and tubes, take out our kayaks for a little adventure, get moving with free yoga classes, or hang out in our steamy sauna for an afternoon. We also run a bunch of fun activities including guided hikes and paddle board tours for your enjoyment. We’re basically a summer camp for adults, just with some added cervezas. And yes, wifi is included although we promise, you will find a better connection with the people and the atmosphere.

We have a bar fully stocked with all of your favourite alcoholic (and non-alcoholic) beverages, a full breakfast and lunch menu prepared by our gourmet Mayan chefs, and our famous family style 3 course dinner with free beer (of course!).

We offer private and shared glamps (up to 4 people), or private and shared treehouse rooms overlooking the lake and the valley. Each glamp and treehouse room is fully set up with electrical power and cozy blankets.

In a mission to protect our beautiful environment, the owners built this property with love, using eco-friendly materials and technology such as compost toilets, recycled wood and glass bottles, and LED lighting.

Free Cerveza is located in Santa Cruz la Laguna on the northern shore of Lake Atitlán, only a 10 minute boat ride from the main dock at Panajachel. You can even ask for the driver to drop you off directly on our private dock!
Valid Passport is required at Check-In. Check-in is at 2pm and check out is at 11am.
Glamping is only reserved for guests 18+ and has a fun, youthful vibe.

Reception is open from 8 AM - 9 PM.
Curfew is at 11 PM: Santa Cruz law requires us to close our common area and reduce noise by 11 PM. View House Rules

FREE CERVEZA IS THE BEST HOSTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED IN! I can not recommend this hostel enough, the vibe, the location, and most of all the people. The volunteers here and Steven, one of the co-owners really make this place. I was welcomed straight away and immediately fell at home and like I was part of their family. I cannot thank the team here enough and would like to personally shout out Steven, Jack, Kesi, Singe, George, and names which I’ve definitely forgotten but I haven’t forgotten you!

Location gives a very good view on the lake. There is not much around, so it's a peaceful place, even if it could get loud if the guests or staff are partying. The food was always very good. The wifi is very slow. The fees for free activities were useless for me, so it's too high for no reason. There was more staff than guests when I was there, so I didn't meet many people. The Lake House door broke while I was inside (things happen), but they were fast to repair it.

Liked the vibe, location, and activities BUT BED BUGS in the treehouse! We told the staff and moved to a tent for our 2nd night. When we left, they said they’d fumigated and dealt with the bed bugs. 2 days later, I meet 3 girls who stayed at free cerveza in the same 4 bed dorm I did and also got bed bugs! It’s so wrong the hostel knowingly put other backpackers in the treehouse dorm after I’d told them about the bed bugs and acted surprised when the other girls mentioned it!

Very overpriced and the staff do not know anything of the local area. If it is raining there is nothing to do so ensure you check the weather before. The lake itself is beautiful but I didn’t enjoy the forced feel of the hostel

This hostel had bed bugs, knew about it and let us stay here! After a sleepless and itchy two nights we realised that bed bugs were the source of our problem, checked out early, and reported it. We moved to another hostel and met others that left the hostel due to bed bugs in the same room the night before. They had reported it but nothing had been done. They seemed apologetic and reimbursed us for the nights we had booked. However the problem was entirely avoidable. We are now left covered in b
