Ganbara Hostel is a contemporary space that's fun and affordable. We'll help you save money with free Wi-Fi and sheets – and most importantly, a free breakfast! Our guest kitchen means you won't need to splash your cash on meals out. Free coffee and tea saves euros and opens up conversation. Just grab a cup alongside another traveller in our bar or one of our lounges. And when you're not chatting, make the most of the Wii and table tennis!

We're in the Seven Streets Old Town area – pretty much the centre of the city – less than a 10-minute walk to cool cultural stuff, including the neoclassical architecture and Sunday flea market at Plaza Nueva and the food stalls at La Ribera Market. The famous Guggenheim Museum, with its photo-worthy exterior and constantly changing exhibits, is 30 minutes away by foot. You can get to us from Bilbao Airport in about half an hour in a taxi or by metro.

Rooms and Dorms

We have mixed or female-only dorms with secure lockers, and there are private rooms too if you don't fancy sharing. Just like the dorms, these either come with en-suites or communal bathrooms. There's air con throughout the hostel for respite in the summer if you've spent a day out in the strong Spanish sun.

Extras and activities

Our reception never closes, so you can get travel tips from staff anytime. They'll also lend you hairdryers at no charge, and towels are available to hire. You're welcome to use our printer if you'd rather have your boarding pass in your hand. If you're checking out early but leaving Bilbao late, we have luggage storage for your backpack while you take a last-minute boat trip on the Nervión River. If you rent one of our bikes, you can get there in 12 minutes.

The Pros: Super relaxed and social atmosphere, super friendly and helpful staff (Ian was INCREDIBLE and made us feel at home), in-house bar, lots of space to lounge and meet people, clean bedrooms and bathrooms, private shower stalls, decent location, 24-hour reception, lots of resources available on premises (pamphlets on walking tours, social events, etc.). The Cons: No air conditioning, security wasn't great (front door often unlocked with strangers entering).

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 2 nights before the bbk festival and 1 night after. The staff were always incredibly helpful and pleasant, and, went above and beyond to help us. The days before the festival we were recommended where to go for great pintxo and what to see in the city. The day after the festival the staff helped us with my girlfriends passport being stolen; this included translating our situation to the police, showing us where to go and what to say etc. 10/10

Friendly and helpful staff, there was an error in their system that put me into the wrong dorm and they resolved the problem quickly and professionally. Basic but adequate dorm rooms, good common area to meet people. Overall good experience.

The staff here are amazing and couldn't be more helpful. The hostel itself is nice but although being quite new is looking a little worn in some of the rooms. Breakfast was also good. Thanks for a great stay Ganbara hostel!

The Hostel staff was very nice. Breakfast had some good options and the fact that it is included is definitely a plus! There aren't enough showers. With only 2 stalls, our group of 4 people had to wait for a long time for other people to get out and for the 4 of us to get ready. Rooms are very small. In case your are sharing with people you don't know very well I would say it would be pretty uncomfortable in terms of having personal space.

If you're looking for a hostel to meet lots of people and socialize, this is not the place. The hostel is perfect for someone on a business trip or looking for some seclusion. The hostel was almost always empty, except for breakfast. Perfect for if you want the kitchen to yourself to cook or the common room nice and quiet to read or work in. The only time I interacted with anyone was during breakfast or right before bed, if I got back early enough before everyone was asleep.
