Nagano was a highlight of my trip to Japan and I can attribute this to the amazing staff at Guest House Kura. They helped me plan an amazing two day stay in this beautiful area.

This was the best accommodation I have stayed in ever! The futon were very comfortable and warm, and there were nightly activities such as calligraphy writing and music. The hosts were incredibly hospitable, and provided Japanese sweets and matcha. They even drove me to onsen every night! Incredible!

What a lovely place! From the moment we stepped through the door (my husband at a low stoop as the ceilings are low!) we felt welcomed.we were introduced to very one and given a cup of tea. Such friendly people. Nothing is too much trouble. If you express an interest in anything at all, someone will try to arrange it for you. If you were on a long travelling trip, this would b a lovely place to put down roots for a while and relax, soaking in the sleepy vibe of Suzaka. We were sorry to leave!

Owner and staff were super warm and welcoming (shout out to Marina and Yuuri!) Their English was impeccable and made asking for suggestions a cinch. The place was in great shape and clean. Suzaka is a small town, and the hostel’s recommendations helped a lot—we ate tons of exceptional, local food because of their help, and they also helped us reach the snow monkeys! We would definitely stay here again.

I had a great time here, it was the first time I had stayed at a very traditional style Japanese accommodation. The location was slightly out of the main area which was actually nice to see a less touristy area. The staff was awesome they drove me around and took care of bringing my bags to the train station for me which was really nice. When I first arrived they worked with me on creating my itinerary and had a lot of recommendations! Would definitely recommend and stay again in the future!

What a wonderful place. Facilities are a bit basic, but this was the best place we stayed at in 2 weeks travelling Japan. The owner Marina san is truly special. She bent over backwards to make us welcome, took us to her favourite onsen, and was just fabulous. Gave great recommendations and provided such a lovely experience, hard to describe in words. Seems locals treat the place as home as well so you end up meeting such lovely people. Wish we could’ve stayed longer. Can’t recommend enough
