Overview

If you're looking for minimalism and ultra-stylish interior design, Kyoto Morris Hostel is a winner. Cook and hang out in the cool streamlined kitchen. It's next to our café, which morphs into a low-key bar come the evening – ideal for sampling Japan's trendiest craft beers. The stylish lounge space is perfect for meeting other travellers, and free Wi-Fi means it's usually a popular spot with bloggers and Insta pros. For an extra unique touch, the bedrooms in our quirky building are actually underground! Air con keeps them fresh and cool.

Location

From Kyoto Station, get the Karasuma Line to Marutamachi Station, which is a 12-minute walk from the hostel. On the way, you'll have loads of opportunities to snap a few shots of the city's iconic architecture and kitsch corners, too. If you prefer to walk there's tons nearby. The Sentō Imperial Palace, former residence of Japan's Emperors, is a 12-minute stroll. Planning your trip from the airport? Book a transfer – it's about an hour's drive.

Rooms and Dorms

Our mixed and female-only dorms are designed to give you privacy (you'll find an individual reading light and curtains around each bunk). There's an en-suite bathroom in every dorm, and we'll give you a fluffy towel and crisp sheets for free. If you're travelling as a couple— or just want to splash out — we have twin, double and quad private rooms, too.

Extras and activities

Take one of our free rental bikes and see the old town from a different perspective. If you haven't planned ahead, have a chat with one our friendly team first and they'll point out the top sights on a city map (they're free to take away!). We've made our laundry facilities free too, leaving you a little extra for your trip to Nishiki Food Market, also known as 'Kyoto's Kitchen'.

This is by far the best hostel I’ve ever been in. We’ve found the following things that we didn’t find in any other hostel in Japan that we’ve stayed in: Free laundry, free bycicle (1,000 jpy deposit, they’ll return it after return of bycicle), free locks, pretty cool pijamas for only 100 jpy and the staff is really really cool. Rio and Jose were amazing. Stay here, is the best option. They have buffet for a cheap price

By far the best hostel I’ve been to. It sets the bar high for other hostel reviews. It exceeded my expectations. I stayed in a private room. Didn’t mind the shower to be on a different floor. Loved the breakfast (it’s so worth the 550-600 yens). Much appreciation to the staff for their help. Special thanks to one staff (I apologize for not getting his name) who brought me pain relief medicine for my back pain. I have been recommending the hostel to my fellow travelers. Thanks!!!

I had a great stay at Morris Hostel, the staff were always very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very nice and abundant but would've liked it if they offered more vegan options and fresh fruit.

The hostel is amazing! The bed is really nice, the location is perfect and the staff is super nice and welcoming. The breakfast was really good and the girl at the bar gave us the best restaurant and bars recommendations. We are extremely pleased with the service!

One of the best hostels I've stayed at in Japan. I stayed in the mixed dorm room, and you get a lot of space with your bed compared to other hostels. The staff is super friendly, and the bar, kitchen, and hang out area was great. Everything was very clean, and there's free laundry which was great. Just time it accordingly, the dryers can take a while sometimes. Would stay here again.

An all around nice hostel, clean & convenient. The common room, kitchen / bar area is spacious & relaxing. You can bring your own alcohol which is way cheaper than buying drinks at any bar in Japan. The dorm can be a bit noisy & there's always lights on which is a bit disturbing. I loved the free bike rental & laundry. The breakfast is awesome value for money as well. There's not showers on every floor which is odd. Check in/out is super strange times all over Japan which I'll never get use to.

This hostel is amazing. Really spacious beds, good breakfast (not included) and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location was in the city center, a bit far from the main attractions but nothing too bad. I would really recommend this place as it is a great value for money.
