If you're looking for minimalism and ultra-stylish interior design, Kyoto Morris Hostel is a winner. Cook and hang out in the cool streamlined kitchen. It's next to our café, which morphs into a low-key bar come the evening – ideal for sampling Japan's trendiest craft beers. The stylish lounge space is perfect for meeting other travellers, and free Wi-Fi means it's usually a popular spot with bloggers and Insta pros. For an extra unique touch, the bedrooms in our quirky building are actually underground! Air con keeps them fresh and cool.

From Kyoto Station, get the Karasuma Line to Marutamachi Station, which is a 12-minute walk from the hostel. On the way, you'll have loads of opportunities to snap a few shots of the city's iconic architecture and kitsch corners, too. If you prefer to walk there's tons nearby. The Sentō Imperial Palace, former residence of Japan's Emperors, is a 12-minute stroll. Planning your trip from the airport? Book a transfer – it's about an hour's drive.

Rooms and Dorms

Our mixed and female-only dorms are designed to give you privacy (you'll find an individual reading light and curtains around each bunk). There's an en-suite bathroom in every dorm, and we'll give you a fluffy towel and crisp sheets for free. If you're travelling as a couple— or just want to splash out — we have twin, double and quad private rooms, too.

Extras and activities

Take one of our free rental bikes and see the old town from a different perspective. If you haven't planned ahead, have a chat with one our friendly team first and they'll point out the top sights on a city map (they're free to take away!). We've made our laundry facilities free too, leaving you a little extra for your trip to Nishiki Food Market, also known as 'Kyoto's Kitchen'.

We really enjoyed our stay. The staff were really helpful and friendly. Really liked the communal seating/kitchen area. If you wanted to cater for yourself there’s a supermarket around the corner very convenient. I borrowed a bike which was easy and great to get about to the palaces and gardens. Will definitely look out for any more of these hostels in the future. Thank you

We loved it here, it was almost like being in a hotel, very clean and stylish. The facilities were great and we would definitely recommend paying for the breakfast option, it was very well set out and had a good selection of food.

Really great hostel! Our bed was SO comfortable, and being able to choose our own pillow type was great. The common areas were so nice and a great place to hang out after a long day. The breakfast, while not included, was amazing and I thought worth the daily charge as a pastry/coffee at a nearby bakery cost the same. Only complaints are that our room had a slightly strange smell and if you’re not staying in the dorm, the showers are on a different floor. One of the best hostels I've stayed in.

Ive never been to a hostel where they include so many things. Free washers , driers, pillows bikes and internarional plugs. Amazing. Cleany tidy big rooms. A little walk from the town center. But worth it for us. We cycled to all the temples we wanted to see. Would stay again.

Really liked this hostel. Staff were so friendly. This hostel is honestly more like a hotel than anything else. Decor is gorgeous. Showers were amazing too. Also, free bike rental was brilliant! Great cooking facilities too. Location was good. I stayed in the 18 bed mixed dorm, it was very comfortable. My only recommendation is it would be great if some events were run to encourage guests to meet each other. There wasn’t much of a social atmosphere. Overall would really recommend!!

Incredibly modern and clean facilities. Staff were super friendly and helpful. The walk to the metro stations got a little frustrating but it seemed quite common for visiting most places in Kyoto, public transport is not as convenient as other cities. Also no safe in the room was a minus.
