Hostelworld says

Travellers looking to experience the unique atmosphere of Granada would do well to start at Makuto Backpackers Hostel. This friendly, laid-back hostel in the Albayzín features an outdoor terrace with a bar and a treehouse as well as comfy lounge areas with hammocks, cushions and guitars. One Hostelworld guest told us, 'after trying two other highly rated hostels in the city I much preferred sitting in the tree house in the sun'. They also serve budget-friendly home-cooked dinners. We like their free evening walking tours of the Albayzín and Sacromonte.

I loved it here. I ended up staying another night because the town and the hostel were so good. The hostel has a really inviting and relaxed vibe but still manages to be really social and fun. Also the staff were the most helpful I have met on my travels so far, they just genuinely wanted everyone to have a good time and enjoy Granada as much as they do.

    Fabulous

Great location! Short walk to a viewpoint to see the city below and short walk to the city center. There's also an exercise park up the street - fun place to play at night. The hostel has a very chill and cozy vibe, the family dinner is a good way to meet with hostel-mates, and there's singing/playing instruments after dinner. Not a place for you if you're looking for a restful night. There's only one communal bathroom though and you have to walk to the other side of the building to use it.

    Fabulous

This was a great hostel to be in for a solo traveller. Very social and always lots of activities and opportunities to meet people. Communal breakfast and dinners in the awesome outdoor area was great. However, the bedrooms weren’t great. Bunk beds stacked 4 high, with barely any space to move if you’re in the middle bunks. Also, be warned that the 5 bed dorm has an ensuite with no ceiling attached, so there’s no privacy in the bathroom as your fellow roommates can hear and smell everything...

As a solo traveler, this hostel was great for meeting people. Especially on the walking tour, which meets with their sister hostel. Very unique hostel, no frills. Some of the dorms were 4 bunks high - some people may not like that. All in all, Would definitely go back

    Very Good

    27 Oct 2019
Atmosphere wise, it’s amazing. There’s great chill out areas for people to hang out and talk. The bar is very convenient as well. In terms of facilities though, it’s really not sufficient. There’s only three showers in the whole hostel and three toilets. The water in the shower is kinda cold and the pressure is weak. There’s four beds stacked on each other in some rooms, with minimal head space. The staff could definitely do a better job at being more friendly and inviting as well.

    Good

Less than basic comfort. The rooms are super small for the number of people. I was in a 3 person bunk bed, couldn't even sit in my bed. Not enough bathrooms for the number of people. Cannot choose shower temperature; was a bit cold. Rooms with direct access to courtyard are very noisy, because the walls are not at all soundproof. No personal light, plug or curtain in bed area. Doesn't seem the rooms are cleaned, since it was always so dirty.

Light in room didn’t work. Staff was unhelpful and couldn’t care less. Same was the attitude when we called in before checkin with a question. During the checkin we were given minimum Information because the staff at reception was in hurry to be done with his “last checkin” of the day. Bunk beds were too low- one can’t event sit up without bumping head. Overall vibe was poor too.

Makuto Backpackers Hostel says

I think what makes us really special is that we pay a lot of attention to our common areas since we think this is what a hostel is all about. That's why we have three main outdoor areas - a patio and cosy bar to meet your fellow travellers in; Mexican hammocks for relaxing in; and a superb tree house for hanging out or catching a bit of sun. Plus we've got a chill-out area with a tree inside, a big BBQ close to the kitchen and tons more. We've really run away from the modern, impersonal set-up of some other hostels. For instance, it's free to use our shower, internet and kitchen after check-out if needed!
We're in a superb location in the Albaicin. It feels like a village in the middle of a city because 90% of the streets in our neighbourhood are cobblestone and pedestrian, with white facades, nice little squares, labyrinthine streets and cute houses. I always recommend that guests visit the Daral Horra Palace (where Boabdil's mother lived) and Bañuelo (Arab baths from XI century).
I think generally our hostel is suited for backpackers between 20 and 30 years old, but it really depends on guest's spirit, open mind and feeling. We have had older guests that loved Makuto because they said it has the essence of a hostel and loved common areas and younger ones whose parents have sent us presents after their stay as thanks for making them feel so comfortable.
