Overview

At Summer House Backpackers Brisbane, we're proud of our reputation as one of Australia's best budget hostels. With our funky décor and fun events, we like to make you feel at home. Take a beer from our bar – up to our rooftop terrace. Bask on a lounger surrounded by views over the city and river, and stick around for our evening socials. We'll keep you well fed, with our free pancake Sundays, cheese and cracker nights and Italian nights – and well entertained (don't miss our free boat cruises along the Brisbane River). Grab a continental breakfast every morning – that's free too – naturally!

Location

We're a block away from the Brisbane River waterfront and 7 minutes' walk from the Roma Street Station. This is where the train from the airport, the BDVL, will drop you off – the journey takes about 45 minutes, door to door. There are plenty of cool places to grab a drink just 5 minutes' walk away, with bars like Lefty's Old Time Music Hall, Brewski Bar and Libertine Restaurant a short stroll from the hostel.

Rooms and Dorms

Whether you prefer to keep it cosy or bunk up with new friends, we have mixed dorms of all shapes and sizes. All of our rooms have fresh linen, air con – a must during our hot Aussie summers – and there are power points beside every bed. Bring along a padlock to use your locker, or pick one up from reception.

Extras and activities

Our super fast Wi-Fi is free, so you can stay on top of the shows you're hooked on (help yourself to free and tea and coffee). If you have time for TV, that is – we have heaps of free events to keep you busy. Head to the rooftop for our legendary barbecue dinners, and down to street level for our free walking tours if you need a newbie's introduction to our amazing city.

Good hostel not far from downtown, close to a supermarket and host some activities ( there was free bbq on Friday while we stayed there). The rooms have AC and lockers. Only thing is the hostel lacks a welcoming and spacious common area and the kitchen is a bit small.

Great place overall with the only downfalls being that the kitchen has no circulation so it gets very hot very fast while in there. Had to lose my shirt before starting to make my meal a couple times. It can also get extremely dirty in there which isn’t on the hostel itself or its staff, but backpackers themselves. Every night you almost needed a fire hose to spray everything down - I actually helped a staff member clean one night it was so bad. Definitely recommend tho as it’s very social!

The staff were super helpful whenever we asked anything. Got a free upgrade when we arrived which is always an amazing bonus. The daily events that are put on were good to meet people. Would stay again

    Fabulous

Ended up staying here for about week. The kitchen is the weakest area as it's small and no ventilation, so imagine when it's dinner time and everyone's there. There's a Netflix room which I enjoyed. The hostel is always generally clean. Rooms are messy. Quite small and basic. You get locker to put your valuables and location is reasonable. You're a 10min walk from greyhound stop/railway and 20mins walk from CBD. Would happily stay again though

Stayed here for a month last time I was in Brisbane and enjoyed my time there, of course I went back and had a near enough similar experience. Great value for money in an excellent location. Staff were always pleasant to speak to.

The rooms are so hot it's almost suffocating. Friendly staff and great location. Not the best atmosphere and the restrooms were always broken.

Only used the hostel for one night and to sleep. I arrived in Brisbane late and was leaving for a your very early. The room I stayed I was a 4 bed dorm which was decent sized and what you’d expect for the money paid Thanks

The best thing was the air con in the dorm room! It was very comfortable to sleep there. Kitchen was well equipped and not too busy. The area was a bit dull but walking distance to the centre.

    Very Good

Ok hostel with nice dining area but a small kitchen. Dorms busy and crowded with peoples stuff... hardly anyone bothered using lockers so its a mess. Good location within Brisbane. Rooftop terrace was closed whilst we were staying.. Staff alright. Good for a single nights stay but lacking in atmosphere.

False advertising, I’d say. The dorms are more like an emergency war field hospital than a nice place to stay. Uncomfortable, packed tightly, and inevitably messy, as there isn’t any space to store anything. The kitchen/eating areas are tiny, and the breakfast was pathetic. I actually left early to go stay at another hostel after just one night here.
