Most of the hostels in Split are located in the city centre but you can find plenty a little further outside if you are looking for nature and a more chilled experience. If it’s iconic Split you’re after book into a Split hostel on Marmont Street and you’ll be right amongst it, with shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as a theatre and Split’s first ever cinema. It’s also possible to stay right on the edge of The Riva, a spacious promenade with a distinct French influence, and an ideal morning coffee spot. Staying right on the beach, just a stone’s throw from The Old Town, gives you a little bit of everything that Split has to offer.

Start by travelling back in time to the Roman period at the Diocletian’s Palace and the Cathedral of St Domnius and reach the last century at the Meštrović Gallery for incredible sculptures and art collection. The city centre is a gem where getting lost is worth it. If you do, just follow the sound of the waves till the Riva or head to the beach to get a tan! The city is quite easy to explore on foot. Tip: ask at your hostel’s reception for the walking tour to get orientated with the city and main sights. From the city airport of Resnik you will find plenty of options for buses that will take you to the city centre in a blink of an eye!
