Hippo Lodge is a friendly and affordable hostel with an amazing, elevated view of Queenstown, from the side of Queenstown Hill, facing Lake Wakatipu and The Remarkable mountain range. Walk to town in only a few minutes and enjoy all of the region's best offerings, just be prepared for the short but steep ascent back!

We offer a mix of private rooms and mixed dorms, all of which feature views of the mountains, lake or garden. Guests have access to a fully-equipped shared kitchen and a communal lounge with TV.

We offer free WiFi and free (but limited) parking.

Card details will be required for all reservations but no payment will be taken until the day of check-in.
Any cancellation within our 1 day cancellation policy will be charged for their first nights accommodation.
All bookings made through Hostelworld, must be amended through the same channel.
Group bookings may be required to pay a security bond on the day of check-in. Guests will be contacted directly if this is the case.

A standard and authentic backpacker experience, but try to get a bed in the 2nd floor. Good value, and you get what you pay for. Also got parking quite easily, and I counted at least 6 spaces with possibility to squeeze in another at the property it self, which I think is pretty good. And it was free. Would stay again

Good value for the price, recommend if you just need a clean and fine place to sleep for a couple nights. Nice folks, not a huge social scene (more so people gathered in common spaces on their phones or talking with one friend), but homey. Facilities were fine, comfy beds. Not a bad walk into town.

I really enjoyed the vibe of Hippo! Definitely my favorite place I’ve stayed in Queenstown. The common space feels very homey and everyone there when I was was chill and open to chatting and hanging out.
