About

Welcome to the Flaming Kiwi!

We are situated 5 minutes walk to the town centre and a 3 minute walk to the nearest supermarket.

We are a friendly, cozy hostel with lots of great stuff for our guests to enjoy! Please scroll down for more information about our PARKING! Go for a walk and borrow some of our Frisbee golf discs and try them out at the Queenstown Gardens Course, or indulge in our FREE UNLIMITED Wi-Fi. We also now have a hostel app exclusively for our guests to take advantage of. On there you will find special Flaming Kiwi deals with great local companies around town, a huge list of must do's in and around Queenstown, hostel events and information.

Our three fully-equipped kitchens have a great layout for cooking and meeting other guests and they are all stocked with free tea, coffee and sugar. We also have a BBQ grill, games, books, puzzles, & smart TV. Furthermore - check out our weekly events, you may be able to win a prize!

All of our dorm rooms have personal lockers with built-in power points so you can charge your electronic gadgets in total security. We also have USB plugs next to each dorm bed as well as a reading light. If you need padlocks, we have some that are FREE to borrow, just enquire at the front desk!

Keep in mind, we are a small property and have only LIMITED PARKING SPACES - PARKING IS NOT GARANTEED. Our LIMITED PARKING is on a FIRST COME, FIRST SEVE basis, we do not reserve. We advise with our parking at the back in particular, to walk down first to check for space before driving down. This is due to the fact the back of the hostel is fairly narrow for some to navigate.

Our friendly staff are more than happy to give you advice and information about the local area and the rest of New Zealand, tours & activities.

** IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - Latest update as of 06/08/26 - please disregard if your booking doesn't land between these dates -  the Queenstown Lakes District Council is undergoing major wastewater infrastructure upgrades along Robins Rd, the street the hostel is located on. This has been ongoing since January 2026. AS OF 07/08/26 ROBINS RD WILL BE OPEN TO SINGLE LANE TRAFFIC, RUNNING NORTH TO SOUTH ONLY. Robins Rd will then have to close completely again in the near future, unconfirmed date. VEHICLE ACCESS FOR AFFECTED PROPERTIES IN THE WORKSITE WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM THE NORTHERN END OF ROBINS RD (where Hamilton Rd is just opposite the hostel). ROADWORKS MAY BE FINISHED BY THE END OF SEPTEMBER 2026. Crews will be working Monday to Friday 7:30am to 5:30pm, some Saturdays will be affected and also brief periods of night works may be required (which to date has not occurred). Of course if this concerns you and you wish to cancel within policy limits this is understandable. Apologies for the inconvenience, unfortunately this is out of our control. **

Hostel was clean, beds were good. Just bit of a weird vibe. Not social for people passing through.

Really helpful staff, gave great advice. Property location was perfect only a five minute walk into Queenstown. It’s a small hostel but certainly has a very cosy and friendly feel, and the staff do a great job keeping it clean. 3 kitchens as well! They’re a bit dated but work fine.
