Welcome to Lazy Monkey, where the jungle meets the surf. We aren't just a place to sleep; we are a community. Located just a 2-minute walk from the famous Hiriketiya Bay, we offer the perfect balance of surf stoke and laid-back island living.

After a day catching waves, come back to our lush garden to cool off. The real magic happens at night—join our famous family dinners, where guests, staff, and friends gather to share incredible Sri Lankan rice and curry while sharing stories. Whether you’re a solo backpacker or a seasoned traveller, you’ll find your tribe here.

I stayed in the “Deluxe” room which was not actually in the hostel itself but a 4 minute walk away. There was no security around this dorm so anyone could have entered the unlocked room. The room and floor were dirty, as were the beds, the bedding was stained, and the bathroom was filthy, with only one of two working sinks. I told staff but nothing was done. We also ran out of toilet paper and it was never replenished despite continually asking. The WiFi in the room also didn’t work.

Had an amazing time staying here in Hiriketiya, the staff were so lovely. The hostel owner Sumee was great at organising nights out and all the local events, you can go with the hostel and get tickets cheaper through them 🕺🏻 a few nights a week they do a delicious family dinner - they also have a hostel dog and puppy who we loved! Soo close to the beach you can walk there easily

We stayed in the “deluxe” female dorm, which is a couple of minutes’ walk from the main hostel. However, security was a major concern — the front door and gate were left unlocked at all times, meaning anyone could walk in off the street as there was no way to properly lock or secure the dorm. The sliding door was also faulty and difficult to use. Family dinners and the bar advertised never operated during our stay. No hot water. Poor WiFi. Unhelpful staff. No towels available to rent.
