Welcome to The Yard! We first opened our doors in Bangkok in 2015, and over the past 9 years, our family has grown.

'Yard' in Thai means 'family,' and we’re excited to bring our good vibes to Chiang Mai, one of our favorite cities.

The Yard Chiang Mai offers a unique mix of cultural and natural experiences, surrounded by both historical landmarks and lush green spaces. Here's a look at what you can expect:

* Wat Phra Singh (10-minute walk): Famous for its stunning Lanna architecture and revered Phra Singh Buddha statue.
* Wat Chedi Luang (8-minute walk): Home to an ancient pagoda and a significant piece of Chiang Mai's history.
* Wat Chiang Man (12-minute walk): The oldest temple in Chiang Mai, featuring the sacred Crystal Buddha and a beautiful elephant-lined chedi.

At The Yard, we focus on peaceful connections and meaningful conversations. You won’t find pub crawls or quizzes here—we provide a calm space to unwind, meet like-minded travelers, and enjoy nature. We believe too many activities can feel forced, so we offer a space where real gatherers—those who love staying in physical communities—can connect naturally at their own pace. Whether you’re relaxing in our cozy garden, taking a Muay Thai class, or sharing stories with fellow travelers, we hope you’ll feel at home in our little oasis. 💚
— Sustainability —
One thing that makes our hostel different (from your typical hostel) is that we aim to reduce our environmental impact as much as possible.
When we designed the hostel we took our impact on the environment into consideration. For example,
- Every direct booking, we donate 1%-7% to indigenous village in Northern Thailand to prevent forest burn.
- Please bring your bottle, we don't sell plastic bottles of water and we encourage guests to refill their bottles.
- We also use overstock fabrics for your bedsheets instead of producing new ones.
- Breakfast is served as a set to reduce food waste, but you can always refill until you’re full!
- We use coffee beans from Northern Thailand and roasted by Laliart cafe in the neighbourhood.
- We made homemade yogurt and jam to reduce single use plastic.
- Shampoo and shower gel made from natural with local people.

Our philosophy is reflected in our name: in English, ‘Yard’ refers to an open space next to a home, while in Thai, it means ‘family.’ We aim to provide a living space that feels warm and welcoming, just like family. At The Yard, we bring people together to share stories, build connections, and learn about sustainable living as we work toward BUILDING ONE WORLD FAMILY.
