Kawoq was a great hostel . We booked last minute because of the impending hurricane Beryl and we were greeted with open arms by Flaco , the only member of staff. It’s a small hostel but it has everything you need . Flaco was a great host always happy to give us recommendations as well as intriguing history lessons ! He taught us a lot about the Mayas and the history of San ignacio . Flaco made our trip and it was very enjoyable to sit down each night and have a few beers with him .

Kawoq is located at the edge of town, a 5-10 minutes walk from the action. Overall, this is not an impressive place to stay. It feels very empty. There were just two people in a 12+ person dorm. Because of the holiday I think the owners had the custodian doing check-in which was not very smooth. That said, if you just want sleep, this place is quiet, convenient, and affordable.

We loved the location. Downtown and close to all amenities. Javier was the most helpful person! He knows the ins and outs of San Ignacio and can help arrange whatever you need. He made us feel welcome and at home! Always having a good laugh.
