You could also spend some time exploring the lanes and piazzas of Trastevere, or one of more than 2000 fountains dotted around the city. That includes the exquisite Trevi Fountain, which is filled with nearly 3000 euros every day – which goes to food and social programs around the world.
The Metro in Rome consists of only two lines, so it’s worth getting familiar with the buses if you want to avoid walking everywhere in the city. You can buy tickets from newsstands, tobacco shops and automated ticket vending machines at most Metro stations and a few larger bus stops.
