About

Intermission Hostel is a christian hostel that offers a unique combination of some of the cheapest beds in Bergen and a cosy atmosphere super close to town!

We’re just a short walk from both the train station and the main bus station (where the airport shuttle arrives and departs). The city centre—home to the famous fish market and Bryggen—is only a 7-minute walk away. We’re also within walking distance of several scenic mountains, including Mt. Fløyen. The highest mountain in Bergen, Mt. Ulriken, is accessible via a bus that stops right outside the hostel.

Our hostel space is charming and traditional. The house was built in 1760 and has a rich history (ask us—we’ll gladly tell you the story)!
Intermission Hostel is built on Christian values of hospitality, community, and care for every single guest. At the same time, we love hearing the diverse stories and perspectives of all who stay with us!

Every evening, we offer free tea, coffee, and biscuits. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, we serve free Norwegian heart-shaped waffles—traditionally topped with brown cheese and jam.
On Sunday mornings, guests are welcome to join a simple, open Bible study. It's a relaxed time for reading a passage together, asking questions, and sharing experiences—everyone is welcome, regardless of background.

Free laundry is included in your stay.

Check-in starts at 17:00.
If arriving after 23:00, the door will be locked, but you can ring the doorbell to be let in.
Checkout ends at 11:00.

We kindly ask guests to refrain from drinking or smoking on the hostel premises.

Intermission Hostel is open each year from mid-June to mid-August.

We are student-friendly and always happy to welcome students traveling on a budget, whether you're exploring Norway or just looking for a restful break.

We look forward to meeting you!

Summary of traveller reviews

Intermission Hostel in Bergen is praised for its incredibly friendly and welcoming staff, who create a fantastic social atmosphere. Guests love the organised events like waffle nights, making it easy to meet fellow travellers. The location is very convenient, close to the station and city centre. Some recent reviews mention that the beds could be more comfortable and that privacy is limited due to the large dorm setup.

I’ve stayed in a lot of hostels, and this was the worst night of sleep out of all of them. I got placed in the top bunk next to the toilets, which meant the door slammed all night and shook my bed and woke me up. I actually left a day early because I only got like 3-4 hours of sleep. The staff was nice. However, it is not just a little bit Christian, every area of the bathrooms are plastered with bible quotes and reasons not to be atheist. As a queer person I felt very uncomfortable with that.

Loved my stay there. Very friendly staff, who put a lot of effort into making their guests comfortable and creating a sense of community. Yes, there are some Christian activities you can do but it's by no means forced and literally everyone is welcome. Location wise it is great, everything is very accessible. I was sad to leave and would go back anytime.
