YHA Newcastle Beach

Wouldn’t recommend staying here, no a/c in rooms says ceiling fans but it’s a small desk attached to wall which doesn’t reach the bunks and it was insanely hot. The bunks are old and make so much noise and no curtains. The bathrooms were disgusting smelt so bad and bins overflowed on to the floor all the time.the whole place smelt like mould. Strange atmosphere here with the guests didn’t feel safe as solo female traveller.

The hostel is in a great location, so close to the beach and ocean baths. The kitchen and room was fairly clean. The hostel is massive and there wasn’t a great deal of guests staying, which made it feel quiet but also eerie at times. Our main issue was that our room was a hotbox. We understand the hostels sustainable goals, but in the summer the rooms really need either aircon or a big ceiling fan. We had a small desk fan in the corner which did nothing and sleeping was very hard in the heat.

Even though I’ve only stayed a night, my time at this hostel was great. Very friendly staff and a lot of information provided about things to do in the surrounding area!!
