Garoa Hostel

I wasn’t the biggest fan of this hostel. My bed frame shook whenever I tried to move. The curtains do not block out light either. But the worst thing for me was the noise. They play music until 4am. I don’t mind a bit of noise late at night, it’s Brazil, we like to party. But the music was so loud it’s like a nightclub. I could feel the vibrations of the bass. I understand a bit of noise, but this was outrageous. How you can advertise a hostel (AKA a bed to sleep in) and have that noise is crazy

The staff were nice and the location is great. The place could be cleaner, however, and I didn’t love the material they covered the beds with - it was a bit uncomfortable. The hostel is inside of a bar which can be great if you want to join the party, but impossible to sleep before 4am otherwise. A big downside for me was that even with the bar, this is not a social hostel per se and I didn’t meet a single other traveler while I was there.

So I only stayed one Saturday night in Garoa, but it's decent. Best thing is the location. It is literally inside a busy bar which is on a super lively street, with lots of other places to go (be warned if you dont speak Portuguese, there's not a lot of tourists).I didn't use the kitchen but I noticed they had a washing machine.Showers/toilets were basic.Room was clean with spacious, lockable storage under the beds, which they give you a key for. Overall a good place for a night or two.
