Masaya Santa Marta

Right outside the door were unhoused people on the streets. I didn’t feel all that safe when I stepped outside. The facilities inside were clean and beautiful for the public areas. But, the private spaces weren’t that great for the dorms. I was there two days and asked for a curtain to be fixed within an hour of moving my items in and it wasn’t fixed. The storage cabinet fell over every time you opened it. Definitely need upgrades. They give you one sheet for bed linens. Nothing special.

Pro: lots of fun events, social atmosphere, nice pools and pretty building Cons: my bag got chewed up by rodents in the night and this happened to a person in the room the night before. I didn’t have food in my bag but it seems the rodents were attracted to my first aid kit which was still in the bag. The hostel workers didn’t really care when I told them/did nothing to help/compensate. The hostel is also a bit away from the main strip so need to take taxis at night.

Lovely hostel and staff are fairly friendly. Facilities are really good. The room I was in was exceptionally hot however (6 bed mixed).
