Earlier this June, we ran a travel survey in association with Lonely Planet. We asked people from all over the world things like ‘How many days do you take for your main holiday?’, ‘What’s your favourite type of accommodation?’ and ‘Do you intend to travel in the next months?’ We also wanted to know: ‘What’s your most trusted hostel booking website?’ I’m delighted to report that 80% of people surveyed answered “Hostelworld.com” to that final question.
While we’re seen as the market leader for great value accommodation, there are lots of worthy competitors out there. But these global survey results continue to affirm us as the number one, most trusted website when it comes to booking hostels, budget hotels, and bed and breakfasts around the world.
So what were the answers to the other questions? Despite feeling financially constrained in today’s economic conditions, when asked whether or not people intended travelling in the next 12 months, a whopping 97% said yes. When asked what type of accommodation they’d consider for their next trip, 94% said a hostel, while the majority of people travelling will enjoy a trip longer than 28 days.
The survey surfaced some other interesting statistics:
- July is the most popular month to travel (18%)
- The main reason for visiting a destination is to ‘explore and learn about new cultures’ (51%)
- 24% of people book their trips 2 months in advance of departure date
- 41% base their holiday choice on price
- 89% of wouldn’t be willing to spend more than $100 a night on accommodation
We found out lots more information from the survey also which I’ll be posting in an inforgraphic here next week.
So, if you’re thinking of booking a hostel in the future, you now know that Hostelworld.com is officially the most trusted website out there. We’ve got more properties, more content and more availability than anybody else. That’s official.
