Banana Bungalow has everything a low budget visitor can dream of - a nice staff that takes you to a different trip each day giving you a really good insight in Mauis beaches and sealife, the jungle, nature and even the spirit and lifestyle of the hawaiian people without you needing a car. There is enough room for party at BBQ`s, bonfires, ABC Partys or even just chilling in the hot tube or playing pool. only cons: you have to slam the doors to shut it so its very noisy cause you'll hear anything

There was nothing wrong with the hostel, but nothing that would make me want to stay again either. It is quite a big hostel, has the most staff I've ever seen anywhere (within 4 nights we saw 6-7 different receptionists), it's clean and beds are very good. They were also very accommodating when we had to change rooms, and they arrange good tours. One big annoying thing is that they always cleaned the big bathroom between 9-10 am, exactly when everyone's using them.

I think the main draw are the daily tours, which are inexpensive, but not free, and may fill up before you sign up. The staff had very limited knowledge of how to do any excursions outside from their own. They provided minimal information about the location, etc. limited bathrooms and showers for an entire hostel, and you're often left waiting in line for a often cold shower. Bathrooms disgusting by afternoon. Private room a closet size.

Arrive early on a Monday so that you can have a fighting chance of going on Hana trip on Tuesday. Then check out, go to lahaina last resort for a cleaner stay, better location. If you just want to stay high all the time, just stay at bungalow. Great tour guides, dirty hostel, they offer the tours so you don't have to stomach the hostel for hours at a time. You can survive it if you stay high. Quiet time is a joke! The value is in leaving the place, not staying! Hike up volcano is also cool.

I really enjoyed my time at the Banana Bungalow Hostel, there was such an amazing vibe, with an awesome group of staff members! Everyone was super helpful, and the staff began to feel like friends. I loved the free pancake breakfast, Friday night free keg party, and especially the amazing tours. The 12 mile hike on Mount Haleakala was definitely the highlight of my time at the Banana Bungalow. Thanks guys!

The free tours are amazing but they are limited for +- 20 people and the hostel is far from everything. So it's good to rent a car.

Many of the hostel staff are former guests that had such a great time on their visits they decided to stay and work to share the wonderfull experiences they had as guests with new guests. This staff culture really made Banana Bungalow very friendly and enjoyable.

Really glad I stayed at the hostel- met lots of people and the free hiking tour was good fun. I was pleased to get on the free tour even though I arrived later on the night before and was last on the waiting list. My advice to new arrivals is put name down for the tour- then in the morning get up and have everything ready to go even if you're on the waiting list as not everyone who puts their name down bothers to get themselves out of bed!

The Banana Bungalow is an awesome place to stay. It may not be right on the beach but the bus is so easy to use for transportation you don't need to stay on the beach in some fancy high dollar place. The Bungalow allows you to get out and explore all beaches. The tours are great . This stay I did the Haleakala hike which was fabulous and I can't wait to do again and the Big Beach/Little beach which I have done before and is a must do while in Maui if you can. April -tour guide was wonderful.

I was a bit disappointed when I first arrived. No personal lockers (they do have an office safe), no towels, slowest internet around, and remote location (close to Kahalui airport [OGG], but few walkable shops/eateries and getting to a beach requires a vehicle [cab/bus/rental]). That said the hostel has daily organized trips all over the Maui and a nice atmosphere. If you want a quiet place for reading... this isn't it. If you want a place to meet people with party options... book it.

The place has a good atmosphere and offer good tours. Also is a good place for relax and meet good people. The staff is fun and make of the Friday night a good intreteiment. The only advice, if you expect hot showers, don't be the last one to take it!!!

As a manager of a hostel myself, I was quite impressed by Banana Bungalow and will definitely recommend this hostel to other guests. Will most likely return myself!

We see the sunlight through the windows so we can't sleep from 6h30 a.m. We always hear the cars passing by the street during the night and our window was broken so it was very noisy. The walls are very thin so we can hear what is hapening in the rooms beside. Located in a non touristic and dark area. You need a car because it is very far. Babyfoot and pool table almost broken.

The free tours are the best thing about the place. The hostel was quite busy so if you're looking for something quiet it migt not suit you. The facilities are fine, you get everything you'll need. Location is good if you have a car, by bus it's a little complicated if you go to/from the airport.

Would be nice if they kept the common area open at night rather than close it down for "quiet time." Walls and doors are thin, windows are always open and sound travels very well in hallways. Wasn't impressed to still be awake at 1:30 asking two guys to take their conversation away from our door... would be nice if someone had been around to kibosh the overally loud guest and redirect them to the common area away from the rooms. And hire a 2nd staff...our guy ran his ass off that day

Decent Hostel! Without doubt the best thing about here is the free tours they have everyday! Staff are nice enough but there does seem to be a lot of them! Room size was good and wifi worked well in common area (not in room) there is nothing in the area but if you sign up for the free tours you will always be doing something! Would stay again for sure!

The free tours rock. Also a hire car to cruise around in as well if you get a group together. No lockers in dorm rooms for important things is a bit of a concern. I would stay again though.
