The hostel is very good, only very small bathroom and shower needs to be tight all the time, also had problems with a roommate who lent the card to friends to use the bathroom in our room.

The reception staff on arrival was very helpful and friendly. We booked a double bed with ensuite room. I was not impressed with the shower and the night time staff on duty when I told him that my shower was ice-cold they said it should work and I ended up going up and down three times. I ended up having a freezing shower after a cold rainy night. I understand that sometimes there are faults but the fact that they couldn't offer me any other shower in the whole hostel when I asked was bad.

The location is great. Good discounts on tours. Breakfast was unimpressive. Also, wifi doesn't work in the rooms, but it does in the kitchen and TV room.. not a huge deal, but a little inconvenient. The room was freezing, but the staff lent us a mini heater. The beds and bedding were past their prime. Also, note that Quay St doesn't allow cars - walking only. We circled quite a bit trying to figure out how to get there. Street parking is free on Sundays! 24hr parking is about 8 euros nearby.

We stayed one night in this hostel. The location is perfect but the staff was at the beginning not that friendly. We had our own bathroom in the room. This was very good but we had only cold water and the heater was switched off in the evening. This was a bit annoying because it was also very cold outside.

Had a great weekend in Galway, will deffo stay here again when I'm in Galway. Our visit was made even better by the friendly staff of the hostel who gave us great advice on where to go for a good night out. The Hostel is in a fantastic location, a few steps from all the shops and pubs and near the Spanish Arch and very close to the bus station and train station. Cheers for a great weekend guys, sorry you didnt get to keep the goldfish

I came in from NYC and was greeted by two friendly gentleman named Danny and Shawn. They made me feel at home and were very accomodating. I was traveling alone and stayed in a female dorm, and the other roommates were respectful and cool. Large kitchen, cozy living room area, and PERFECT location. It's right in the heart of Galway. My ONLY complaints would be it was a little cold in the room (but they gave me an extra heater! Which worked great....) and the room was a bit small for 6 beds.

Very good location, the wrong side being it is VERY noisy till late in the night (early in the morning?)... But if you're one of those making noise, that shouldn't be a poblem. Everything else was OK.

If you want to go to lots of the pubs you can't beat Barnacles. If you want a good night's sleep, bring earplugs. The room was clean and comfy. Brekkie is just toast and spreads.

I have stayed in this hostel before and also the other Barnacles in Dublin and the location can't be beat! The showers in both facilities are not that great but in the Galway Barnacles some of the room had a renovated bathroom and I believe they are doing work on renovating the rest. But the noise was kinda obnoxious, and the fire alarm kept going off but it was only during the day. Other than that, this is the best hostel to stay in, in Galway... Clean, close, and FUN!

All bathrooms are in suite so if you are on a big room or even in a small room it will be hard to get a bath at pic hours. I had to change rooms because the heat was off but in the second room (smaller one) they turned the heat off during the night so it was very hard to sleep because of the cold room (very cold). Also, the shower was semi cold. Nevertheless, the staff predisposition was very good and friendly!

One of the staff was impolite but others was good. The heater in room is not working. Nice tour package. Why the shower must be press again n again to let the water out? Why can't just open it and use?

Enjoyed my night at barnacles hostel, It was a brief stay but i loved the location as it's in the middle of the fun and beside shopping streets with loads of cafes and pub for grub nearby. It was a saturday night so there was a bit of noise but due to the location you expect that. Really would stay there again for convenience to everything

My general opinions is very good. The staff was really friendly, but the best was the localitation, since it was placed in thecity center, in one of the pricipal streets. On the other hand the worts was have to clean the plates.

Private rooms are very small but that didn't really bother us. The shower is annoying because water gets all over the floor of the bathroom although it seems to drain and dry up in a reasonable amount of time. If you pay 6 extra euros you can sleep late and check out at 12pm instead of 10:30am on your last day which is definitely worth the money!

I loved Barnacles. You can't find a better location in Galway. Walk out the door and you're already on the main street. Ended up staying an extra night there. Many pubs and clubs and restaurants a one minute walk away. It is also very easy to meet fellow travlers. If you're going to stay in Galway, the only choice is Barnacles. Stayed in a 14 person or so room and there were 3 bathrooms in the room so no worries about that. They also have a storage closet for a euro or two per day.
