The location was good, however the directions were poor, as they were vague (walk about 5 minutes) and relied on at a sign to the hostel (which was not present) rather than a landmark. Clearer directions would have read something like: "Walk south along NanXinHua street for about 5 minutes – you will pass a pedestrian bridge and a number of music shops (on the left). Turn left along a small alley (Han Jia Hutong), and at the first intersection you should be able to see the multistorey hostel"

The dormitories were located in the basement of a hotel, a "hotel" disguised as a "hostel", and the courtyard scenes in the pictures were of an adjacent property, also called Far-East, but seems like a different world with different management. Classic case of bait and switch, showing beautiful pictures of lush dorm rooms and greenery yet sending you to a dungeon because you aren't paying for the most expensive room. The only indication you are getting a basement is in a tiny disclaimer pop-up.

The location was great, hutong district is lively and very colourful, it;s also close to few touristic attractions and a subway station; the room was cleaned every day, and always without disturbance if I needed more rest. I used shared facilities in the courtyard and they really need some fixing. Overall I would probably try to look for something better next time, but still it wasn't a bad experience.

The directions to the hostel were not the clearest. I had walked up and down the main street looking for the sign that says to turn left for 30 mins. There was no sign indicating where to turn. The hostel did not have any maps for visitors. Most of my exploring was done blind. The location is neat, the hostel is located in the middle of an old Chinese neighborhood and about a 10-15 min walk to Tian'amen square. Would I stay here again? Probably not, mainly because the hostel lacks character.

The female staff generally tried to be helpful but the men were not at all. One night after 12 pm one if the men in the dorms started yelling and screaming at his wife, we could then hear him beating her. She was trying to get out if her roo But could not. I ran upstairs to the lobby to get her help and was shocked to realize the could hear everything from there too and were doing nothing. Perhaps it's cultural? Dunno, but the at least could have been concerned about the noise
