If I were to try and design a hostel - from decor, to location, the facilities and crucially the way the staff have been obviously trained to give friendly non-intrusive, but informed advice, the Hostel Cobreu would be very near my perfect ideal. Well done Hector, Amelia and everybody else - may you make many more travelers extremely happy.(Especial thanks to Marcus who makes a mean capirinha, and the lady who prepares a fabulous breakfast every morning - both served with incomparable smiles!)

We loved our stay at Hostel Cobreu. Super nice people and amazing location. Suggestions for improvement? Reading lamps in the bedroom (we stayed in private room with double bed and one bunk bed), daily complete cleaning of showers/bathrooms, comfortable sofas in the common room. Would happily recommend Cobreu to adventuresome, able bodied friends! Thanks!

A charming little hostel in a great location in Salvador. It's safe and has a very nice and welcoming staff. Great bar/café on the ground level with tasty caiparinhas and good snacks. Like most hostels, this is not the place to go if you require absolute quiet at night. It's not loud, just thin walls. Recommended above some of the other hostels I saw in Salvador, which are in even more touristy locations! Try to come over a Tuesday night for the street party!

The hostel is really well located, the staff was helpful and could speak good English. Pity that the place was full of huge cockroaches and smelly because of pipes issue. It was not very clean as well.

Owner Comment (Show)
Thank you for your comments; it is always helpful for us to receive constructive feedback about the hostel so that we know what we are doing well as well as where we might improve. However, there are several aspects about life in Bahia which may be uncomfortable but over which we do not have very much control. Unfortunately in a city like Salvador cockroaches are essentially unavoidable. We try to do our best by working with an extermination company which treats the hostel every other month but as it is a large city in a tropical country, a few roaches still manage to get in. As for the pipes, in general plumbing is one of Salvador's weak points and while we do our best to keep everything running smoothly, it is an outdated system that continually has issues. We have identified the problem and are working to fix it but apologize that you were here while we were still in the process of working it out and that it so negatively affected your stay with us. Again, we thank you for you comments regarding you stay here at Hostel Cobreu but also ask for some patience. In some ways our hostel has the best location in the historic center city but with the positive aspects of this come some negative consquences of being in the oldest part of a city in the tropics, namely in terms of smells and unwanted bugs. Take care, we wish you safe travels.

Thank you so much for such nice comments! It is always a pleasure to have fun, friendly, open minded people staying with us for a chat over coffee or to dance salsa until 3 in the morning. We all wish you safe travels and if you are ever in Salvador again, we hope you come back to Hostel Cobreu. Take care!

The hostel was very good. It was clean and also the atmosphere was fine. The location is perfect. The only fault is about rooms. The double one is pretty and well furnished but it is hot inside and the window faces on the internal stairs so it is not really ventilated. The staff was always helpful even if most of them can't give any suggestion about places worth to be visited around Bahia and how to get there. Just one guy at the reception was able to give us valid suggestions.I recommend it!

Such a cute place to stay with fantastic staff and a wonderful servic. We stayed in a private room with shared bathroom and the facilities were great, nthe showers on our level were open air which was really lovely. There is a kitchen available for use and two computers as well as wifi throughout the hostel. Security is great and you have to be buzzed in and out of a security gate. Located right in the Pelo. Great bar underneath run by same owners!Unlimited breakfast! Highly recommended.

I loved this hostel. The staff were super friendly and very flexible. I needed to change dates on arrival, and although at first they were not happy, they did it. I made up the dates later. They have all the knowledge on what to do in the city. The breakfast is SUPER!!! Loved it. The hostel is clean. Nice place to meet other travellers. I would definitely be staying there if I go back to Salvadore and I highly reccommend the hostel.

Thank you for such a great review! It's really wonderful to work with people who are so understanding, appreciative and flexible. We love having people stay with us especially when they so clearly understand our vision of having a haven here in Salvador where people can relax from a long, hot day at the beach or a night out dancing in Pelourinho and meet other interesting people from all over the world, exchanging stories and ideas. As all travelers understand, occasionally plans change or there is some confusion about arrival times and we always try and do our best to accomodate everyone who arrives here so it means a lot when people recognize that and are open minded. We hope you and many people like you continue to pass through Hostel Cobreu!

Location excellent for Tuesday night party - if you want to party of course - right next to the stairs where it all starts with the concert. Big dorm - too squeezed, not enough room for everybody. The hightlight thou for my stay it was the helpful staff, especially Carolina from Argentina and Olivia from US - thank you guys for your help! There should be more people like you working at the hostels.
