Tateshina is the best located cheap hotel in Shinjuku. At $70AU a night it was 3 times more$$ than a guesthouse, but it is worth staying here for the convenience of walking. The hotel is a little outdated and smoky, but room facilities are excellent - with a small ensuite, tv, bar fridge, desk and clothes rack, and fairly comfortable beds. Staff are polite rather than friendly + vending machine in hallway for beer and free ice! Close to 7-eleven, golden gai, ni-chome and kabukicho + more.

The staff were always very friendly, helpful and would give you a map and detailed directions on how to get to any location in Tokyo. I would definately stay here again.
