All round perfect hostel, nice location, very friendly staff, clean comfy beds and bathrooms. Beer is cheap (if you buy it from the reception) and there's a great bar/library to relax and socialise in.

The little cafe and wifi space are neat. Private rooms are ok, but the windows can't keep out the noise from outside and the hallway to the shared bathrooms can get extremely noisy. I also stayed in a female dorm. The beds were terrible. I didn't know that coil springs mattresses still existed. They were old and I could feel every single element of the mattress. I would not return to this hostel. Especially after I saw that someone cleaned the washroom sink with a dirty bed sheet.

Would like better internet access inside my room (#301). Great value for the location and price.

helpful staff, good location, good atmosphere. the double room is a bit cramped but the twin is massive (oddly enough). clean bathrooms. they had a million wifi networks but only one worked and we had to go thru trial and error to figure that out. they could have just told us. free map was helpful. restaurant was expensive, but that's at most in-hostel restaurants.

it was my second stay and I will come again next time I visit Shanghai. I pay for two in order to have a "private" room (I am too old for dormitories) and it is still a good value for the money. Location is excellent. Very convenient

Good location - walking distance to the Shanghai Museum & People's Square. Close to the metro as well. Staff were helpful for the most part, but not very friendly and it felt like they were annoyed when you would ask them a question. I liked that they served a good variety of food too. The "lockers" in the dorms do not lock, and they suggested that you leave your valuables at the lobby. Beds were comfortable but the windows don't have a screen so the bugs kept getting in - bring repellant!

In spite of paying the full amount in advance when we returned from Beijing we did not have the room we had paid for. We were put up in a shabby room which appeared like a store room or a staff room. Only on the next day we were shifted to a decent room of our choice. This is not quite a customer friendly service.

The location of Mingtown is unbeatable in this price range, with easy access to People's Park and the Shanghai Railway Station (by subway), but the amenities are slightly disappointing. I've stayed in several Shanghai hostels over the past few years, and Mingtown was lacking some of the basic conveniences that I've come to expect, such as toilet paper and soap in the communal bathrooms, and free short-term luggage storage. There is also insufficient lounge seating.

Don't really recommend the hostel. I cannot say if is possible to find a good one in Shanghai, but this one was dirty, the toilet didn't work properly and water was coming to the floor all time. The shower was ok but all the water was going out to the floor outside since no one cleaned or did not maintain it at all. Toilet paper given in reception and just enough that you don't say you didn't have. The location is good but honestly I rather to pay a little more in a hotel or try another hostel

Very nice hostel located in the heart of Shanghai. I really liked the facilities and the athmosphere! The Staff could have been a bit friendlier. I had too wait quite a long time at the reception.

The staff employed during the day was excellent due to their good English skills, friendliness and good knowledge of Shanghai. The staff working in the nightshift was a different standard: no English communicational skills and no common sense lead to difficulties when checking out.... However we really loved the hostel and will recommend it to others!

Matresses are really bad.Lockers are not easy to close. Same thing in other Mingtown hostels ;check-in is too early so you are woken up by new arrivals all the time.

Everything was fine until I got a very deep cut on my leg while sight seeing and tried asking for a band-aid and they didn't have a first aid kit. When you have a guest crying from pain I think the least you can do is offer them something to heal their wound. I think they should invest a few euros in this. Oh, and one thing they don't tell you is that the wi-fi doesn't reach the rooms, it's only available in common areas. Not great when you need to find a hospital.
