I was arrived at 23:30. At that time, one staff in reception was very unkindness. Except that, everything was very good!

Mingtown was an excellent hostel compared with other countries' famous ones. I couldn't imagine this nice hostel located in the central area which is right next to the People's square. Room, cafe, counter, food, everything was perfect for the backpacker. Hope to stay again.

I really enjoyed my stay in Mingtown. The location is perfect, as it was only a short walk to People's Square, where the Shanghai Museum, Performing Arts Center and the Uban Exhibition Center are located. In addition to enjoying the Mingtown cafe, there was an abundance of resturants in the area. It was also convenient to shopping and other areas of interest like the Yuyan Garden in old town, the Bund and the French Concession.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the hostel and generally found the staff very friendly and helpful. Its a great loaction in a quiet street. My one complaint is the cleaning. Toilet paper is not flushed away but put in a basket.( general practice in Shanghai and its environs.) My basket was not emptied on a regular basis. I had a room with private bathroom and it is possible that this was not the case with shared bathrooms. When I did complain, they acted immediately.

Everything was great, except the reading lamp for my top bunk was so poorly designed that my glasses ended up falling down and landing behind the reading lamp of the woman sleeping below me. She and I finally found them, but it was an embarrassing and ridiculous problem, and the two staff members seemed not very concerned or very interested in fixing it. Do not book a top bunk, or, if you do, do not put your glasses atop the reading lamps, which have no shelves. Or you will be sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was a nice quiet hostel in a great location next to People's Square station. Clean rooms, fast internet, hot water and reasonably priced food. Would stay here again.

The dorm I staid at was conveniently big and actually quite nice. There is a school close by, so bring your ear-plugs when you want to sleep long. No ear-plugs available in China! To me the hostel was a little bit impersonal, due to it's size. There are two computers you can use for free, a pool table... One staff member was very nice, friendly and helpful, another one was kind of strange. There is no toilet paper, you have to bring your own or ask for some. For China it's quite expensive...

I was incredibly DISAPPOINTED. While the facilities were acceptable at best, our room smelled of wet mold. But by far the worst part about this place is the sleazy nature of the older man who worked the front desk. He FORCED us to take a cab HE hired, would NOT let us leave on foot, which resulted in an incredibly expensive drive to the airport that took a circuitous route through multiple districts. I have lived in China for 3 years, and NEVER been taken advantage of this way. SO saddening.

Good location, and cool bar, but I probably wouldn't stay here again. staff were rude and pretty unhelpful. They didn't provide maps. the place seemed dirty. We got given sheets with blood stains. The shower had nowhere to get changed after the shower was finished so it was difficult to dry your feet. The shower was luke warm. The toilet seemed dirty and there was a cigarette butt on the floor the whole time we were there so I don't think they were cleaned regularly. Wifi only in the bar.

What can I say, Mingtown Etour is a real gem. The location is perfect, right at People's Square, only minutes from the metro to connect you to the rest of the city. Nanjing Road shopping street is also close by, and if you prefer to walk, the Bund is about 15 minutes away on foot. The hostel was clean, very well secured, and my little single bed private room had a lot of character The hostel bar was a great place to relax and kick back, and prices were pretty decent as well. I will be back!

Biggest downfall of the hostel was the lack of toilet paper. It was a major inconvenience to have to walk to the reception and the be only given a single use mount of toilet paper.

Didn\'t have lockable lockers, or toilet paper or soap. No laundry either, I think. Otherwise, clean, great location and friendly, helpful staff.

what could have been a really nice place to spend an afternoon or evening (the courtyard bar setting was great) was just filled with individuals reluctant to talk, sitting on laptops. In every other aspect we would rate the hostel pretty highly.

dependable place to stay everytime I'm in shanghai. they have some funny booking quarks, run like a hotel to maximize booking as opposed to first come first serve, but generally still good service. alot more locals stay here now than a few years ago.

No aceptan tarjeta de crédito para el pago, lo que nos supuso un pequeño trastorno. La situación es sensacional y el precio muy bueno

Clean tidy rooms. Dirty bathrooms. Despite language difficulties the staff were generally not that helpful. You get what you pay for. $6.80 USD for a dorm bed was good enough value. Hot water times and toilet paper restricted.
