Well located and very close to Dashijie metro stop, but the directions given from People's Square Metro were hard to follow and I got lost on the way there. But otherwise no complaints! One of the best and cleanest hostels I've stayed in in China.

I will definetly use Mingtown again, if I am travelling to a city where they have a hostel!

The hostel is next to a seafood factory/market or something so there's always a fishy smell to it. I guess that's why some rooms don't have windows. Don't recommend it for a long stay but if you want to stay in a very cheap hostel that's quite central (near People's Square) then it's ok. Don't really like the bathrooms or toilets, remind me too much of public ones.

Before i complain, the location is amazing, but at a DIRTY price! The horrid kitchin had a resident rat, no plates etc, only dingy microwave. Toilets basic but did not even provide handsoap, two out of 5 ladies showers were unusable, some washing facilities broken too. Wifi shocking Beds horrendous. Grumpy staff did not speak english as listed, with one exception! Cafe food ok, but service horrible. Would not stay here again, even with the good location.

Excelent hostel! Well located and clean and amazing area. Cheaper and delicious food inside. The people that work are really helpfull. I recommend!!!

Toilets and bathroom were dirty, also the mattresses and the covers had blood marks... Otherwise the room was ok,

1. Places: Close from metro stations. I was able to go to 'Bund' by walk and it only took about 20 minutes. 2. Foods around the hostel: There are lots of "real" local street food and local restaurant near the hostel. Their foods are very cheap and full of local feeling of China. 3. English: staffs can speak English. 4. Bad things: 1) only cash is available 2) they don't have free tourist map. You should buy it.

Very nice hostel in a great area. Very spacious and comfortable 😊

Very good hostel! Some remarks: 1) toiletpaperbin should have a lid to be able to close it. This would avoid bad odors. 2) The airconditioning wasn't cold enough, it was still 26 degrees in the room with the airco on.

Was disappointed with our stay here. This was a returning visit after a previous stay that was pretty good, but things aren't improving. The staff were unfriendly and sour faced. The entire entry way, reception area and first floor reeked of rotting garbage from outside. The kitchen was closed for food of any kind for our whole stay (we were told the cook was busy). The rooms were average, but very noisy and my friends had to change rooms in the end. I saw two cockroaches on my bed. Foul.

Good location and close to metro. Room nice and bedroom and bathroom clean. Wifi virtually non-existent and KTV next door to room made it very noisy at 5am. Staff unhelpful.

Pros: Awesome location in the middle of Shanghai! Walking distance to the Bund and everything around it. Cons: All the dorms share showers and toilets and they could have been taken cared of a little better. There was water everywhere. They played movies every now and then in the bar and it was kind of annoying how the staff would change movies instead of just finishing one in one go. The movies were also often non-English ones with Chinese subs, Great for the Chinese clientèle I guess.

Decent hostel with friendly staff, good price and convenient location. The beds were comfortable and the café/bar a handy place to chill to out. My only criticism would be that the dorm room was a little damp and could have smelt better.
