Phan Lan is more of a bed and breakfast than a hostel - the facilities are quite nice, breakfast is made fresh every morning, and the people who work there are unbelievably nice. It's tucked away in a little alley just next to the main street, so there isn't a whole lot of noise. One thing is that the towels aren't super white, but they smell fresh and clean. Overall, value for the price is DEFINITELY worth it!

Rooms are large and comfy and extremely clean, the breakfasts were decent and filling, and the owner was extremely friendly and helpful. He helped book us a taxi to the airport, a trip to the Cu Chi tunnels and was happy to let us in at ungodly hours after the doors locked. Thank you Phan Lan!

This the best place that i stayed in Vietnam: very clean, good location, staff is friendly and helpful (but not annoying like in some other places), there is a menu for breakfast, so you can even choose, lady who is cooking and cleaning lives in the place and that gives somehow home feeling to the hotel: kitchen is a real kitchen, and dining room is a real dining room. I would come there once again, very good value for not too much money

It is located in a small and safe alley near the main backpackers' street. Location is great - a lot of restaurants, cafes, spas and shops just a minute away; and you can reach all the main interests on foot (Ben Thanh Market is 10-15min away on foot). The staff was excellent!!! Very friendly, helpful and nice! I would definitely stay there again!:)

Location was good. In the middle of a nice district for restaurants and the like. The owner was really friendly and helpful. He emailed me when I was late and offered to pick me up. Then he arranged an airport taxi with 20 minutes warning. Great guy. Room was similar to other places in Vietnam. But the shower worked well, the bed was decent. A good experience.

It's a great place to stay, nice breakfast, rooms and very friendly and helpful staff! And they'll lift your luggage up the stairs with a hook-lift haha! Good location as well!

Hang was excellent! Very friendly and looked after all my airport transfer and tour bookings. Always saw her with a smile on her face.

A great budget hotel to stay in. The staff were some of the kindest I have met in all of Asia. The breakfast was simple but perfectly adequate and a nice way to start the day. Our room was a little small but we did book the standard so you get what you paid for. Perfect location in the lane just off main street. No noise from the busy street.

Okay place for Southeast Asia (that still means really good for the money you pay), rooms are quite nice, bathrooms could be nicer but still decent. They serve free breakfast (bread, eggs, jam, bananas and a free drink) and the staff was really nice. The location is awesome so I'd recommend it.

Although cheap, Phan Lan was very clean and comfy, excellent location! The staff were excellent. I stayed here twice during my time in Vietnam and both times I was picked up from the airport, even though my second flight was an hour late. I was provided with maps and directions willingly, and as I had an early flight out they arranged for a friend to take me to the tunnels on a bike as there was no time for a tour. Breakfast good, and as in a lane off main street nice and quiet but very safe.

Van was the most helpful person that we have had at a hostel...although it is more like a hotel! It's located down a cute (safe) alley right in the heart of the backpacker area but due to the alley it is very peaceful.

Nice place in Pham Ngu Lao in the same street where nearly all hostels in HCMC are located. The hotel itself is just like all the other ones next door but evrything was clean. The staff was nice and helpful.

the hostel is in the center of Pham Ngu Lao and it´s perfect. staff friendly. breakfast ist ok, but every day same (bread with jam or egg) tours to Mekong Delta should be booked somewhere else than directely in the hostel. We booked a private-2-day-tour and the guide was horrible, he was ignorant and didn´t tell us something about vietnamese culture. great area - bad guide! overall, perfect hostel to stay for 2-4 nights.
