If you are a foreigner, staying there should be a good choice, considered most staff speaks better English than the other hostels. Bathrooms are clean and bright, though there aren't any on the 4th floor where I stayed. Also they didn't check the bed carefully before giving me one, on which I found shorts and towels from the last person who apparently moved to another dorm. Poor follow-up. They also said they were gonna give me a locker key the next day after I moved in, which they failed to.

Stay was okay, but not great. Have been to way better hostels.

Nice Hostel, located very well at a junction of Shanghai Metro, where a few lines meet. But you have to wake up early, coz the hostel is surrounded by a primary school...

Very quiet when I stayed, but generally pretty pleasant. Neighbourhood is nice and about 20 min taxi to The Bund. Room had aircon which was a blessing. Bar with cooked food and espresso coffee was a nice option to have. Room lockers were a little flimsy, and the cleaning of toilets / showers seems to just be throwing a bucket of water at them - though I hear this is the norm for much of China.

Liked: not only free wifi but also free computers to use; good showers; clean western toilets with toilet paper and (usually) soap; comfy beds; there was a mosquito net on the window in my room (although another guest said there wasn't in his so maybe not in all the rooms); the free lockers in the rooms were spacious and there was a reading lamp and shelf for each bed; and the common area had a really good atmosphere for meeting people or for just chilling out and reading.

The facilities were very good, and looked very beautiful. The reception was friendly, but it would've been much better if they could speak better English

I had a great time here and extended my stay by three nights. I arrived, met some good people and a few hours later was out having beers. The rooms are spacious and light and the facilities - ie internet, showers - were ideal. The common area is a great place to mingle & the food they offer is 'cheaper' and tasty. Its far from The Bund but you can walk to the FC in twenty and the art district is five minutes on the tube. Good restaurant on a crossroads close by but no name. Find it!

I stayed here for one night in an 8 person dorm room. The bed was extremely comfortable, the room and bathrooms were very clean, and the common areas and restaurant downstairs were spacious and inviting. The neighborhood near the hostel felt safe when I was walking alone at night, and there were plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby. I would definitely recommend this hostel for anyone visiting Shanghai!

to be perfectly honest this place is an ideal place to stay regardless of budget...I have no reason to stay in some of the nicer hotels in Shanghai...I stayed in a private suite so it basically had all the comforts of a pricier hotel except it had WIFI...which most hotels don't offer....location is perfect if you like the french concession...short walk.... I'll likely stay here in the future...

A very friendly hostel and great value for money. I had a room on the 4th floor, big bed, clean, own bathroom and quite roomy for less than $Aust30 a night. Room had a great view of the local Shanghai skyline. The bar downstairs has cheap beer and 3 computers available for internet. Didn’t eat there but the food looked good. There is a relaxing outside area with a nice pond feature. Plenty of cheap restaurants close by. Easy to find, less than 10 minute walk from subway station, recommended!

It is the second time I stay there and it is truly worth it! The only two things to improve are: they need to be faster when preparing breakfast, and they should have a bank/credit card machine. It is ridiculous a hostel not to use it in the 21st century.

Almost everywhere decorated wooden style, public area has enough table-chairs. The free wifi doesnt work very well, bed sheets are white and clean in rooms. Neary metro stations(line 2, 3 and 4) but the area isnt around city center. Most of visitors are european.

This hostel is very nice, with a big common area (always good if you want to meet people) and a free pool table. Food is ok, but they take their time in serving. It's clean but opening the windows is not always possible, so the smell inside the room can be funny. Beds are comfy. The biggest turn off is that is far away from almost everything you may want to visit. There are 3 metro lines a walking distance away though (10-15min).

I loved Rock & Wood International Hostel. Had a great stay there during my time in Shanghai. Very beautiful facility. I felt like it was a little escape from the city each night when I got back. The hostel has some long-term guests who are doing internships in Shangahi. The Hostel was very social - made some great friends here. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Yes it is a little bit outside the city center, but the metro is only a few minute walk away. Very easy to get around the city!

This hostel was beautiful! They had a lovely downstairs lounge area and the garden area outside was beautiful as well. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Everything was clean and efficient. I enjoyed my stay there perhaps more than any hostel I've been to. Will definitely stay there again if I return to Shanghai.
