What made this hostel is the staff, English language was far better than the staff at my friend's hotel. The staff here have a great knowledge of the area and are more than helpful. One of the best hostels I've ever stayed in!

It is not close to any subway station and the prices are over than almost every hostels in China. In the other hand, it is a small hostel (I think that there are just nine rooms) located inside a Hutong and the staff is very helpfull. The room I stayed was very clean, warm and confortable. Ah, I slept in a bed, not in a bunk! Because it isn't a large hostel, it is a bit calm, better for those who are not traveling by themselves and those who want to rest besides of party at hostel!

Dear Sir: Thank you for your kindly review. Through Hostelworld you can book about 100 hostels in Beijing , but actually CITY WALLS is one of six REAL COURTYARD hostel in Beijing, that means you can stay in a hundreds years history Si-He-Yuan in authentic HuTong ,not only stay in a building with the Chinese decoration . And being with City Walls , you also can mix in real local people's everyday life. Our neighbor in 1 km circle are thousands of local families ,China's Chairman, Premier, Generals of army , they all live in same style courtyard . Join them morning exercise as dancing, Tai Ji, Opera in three parks nearby, You can touch the genuine Peking. In this six courtyards, we are the most central and cheapest one. Warm welcome you back here any time you like, Best wishs. City Walls

Great hostel! Service was fantastic.. All of the staff were so helpful. We went on the Great Wall tour and loved it! We also used the laundry service and it worked out well. The hostel is quite pricey but worth it because it's clean, safe and the staff is one-of-a-kind. The only downside is the location... It's only a 15 minute walk to the main sights but there's nothing really close if you wanna run out and grab coffee/food/etc. Also the metro station is about 20-25 min walk.

The staff totally make this place. They are so helpful and speak superb English. They are also very honest--they helped me to visit cool places and eat at good restaurants on my own by giving me information on bus routes and tips on how to avoid scams. The hostel itself is adorable, though very chilly in the winter. Luckily, you can warm up in the enclosed courtyard with their delicious soups! It's a little far from the metro which is the only downer.

Proximity to forbidden city on Beijing city map is deceiving. The city is so big that the walk takes quite a while to the entrance. The staff were excellent- staying up late for our 2am arrival from the airport to greet us. Staff also helped us with sights and navigating Beijing's confusing bus network. Taxi drivers find it hard to locate the hostel. Once you've found the gas station and the gym, look up! The signs directing the way are high on the power poles. The room was warm and clean.

They told us very helpful information so that we didn't get ripped off. They were very friendly and speak English quite well. If you were tired of eating out or going through the process of trying to order in China, they always made food available and it was good. I might suggest to not charge for extra toast if you bought a breakfast. That has been a standard for hostels in my experience. One of the staff members was not as pleasant as the others. Thanks Lucy and Rick for a great time!

This place is great! However if you ask for recommendations for restaurants and such be sure to ask the price range. I asked for a recommendation for Beijing roasted duck and they sent me to a five star restaurant. It was delicious, so a pretty good recommendation, but I just wasn't expecting it to be so expensive. So be sure to ask!

My wife and I have traveled a lot and have stayed in many hostels around the world - we have never been to a more cosy, clean and nice hostel in our lives. The staff speaks english and they are incredibly nice, they take the time to give you the best route to go wherever you want to go and know all the bus schedules and main landmark locations. They also have a nice international breakfast menu at very decent prices. We were very happy to go back to this hostel after a heavy sightseeing day

We have traveled a lot and this is the best hostel we have ever stayed in. The staff were super friendly, honest, and helpful. The atmosphere and location were unbeatable. The price for a private double was on par with a mid-range hotel but the charm and staff made it a much better experience than you would get at a mid-range hotel. We would stay here again without a doubt and we would highly recommend it to anyone heading to Beijing for business or pleasure.

Great atmosphere and nice walking location, but far from all public transport. One staff member (a guy) was very nice, two others (women) were cold and not very helpful.

This was a great hostel. The staff was exceedingly helpful with directions to the tourist places. I would definitely stay here again! Its a little hard to find in one of the hutongs, but once you learn the area there are many small vegetable and bread shops within a 10 minute walk.

Fantastic location, comfortable and clean rooms, and Rick is great. The women at the front counter were hit and miss, possibly due to cultural differences, but if you just deal with Rick, you're trip will be perfect, as he is very friendly and helpful. Would stay here again

Very kind staff, they helped me a lot to book some tours and trains. Additionally you have nice rooms and a cute little "livingroom" in the middle where you can meet the other guests. I enjoyed my stay there very much and it was a good start into my china trip.

Although its found down a backstreet alleyway, its a nice hostel with a good menu and comfortable beds. Not a big place full to the brim, but a nice small hostel where you can relax and get out to see Beijing easily . The manager is great at helping out with bus's days out and travel arranmgements.

Awesome hostel in superb authentic Hutong setting next to forbidden city and great location. REALLY hard to find though as it's inside narrow snaky alleyways that taxis can't go into so make sure you arrive during daylight and get good directions.
