The music from 12am till 3am coming from the kitchen every morning, deafening in room 101. Like some sort of euphoric trance music? Is it the cleaner? Ludicrous. I have on many occasions in many hostels been the guy crashing about in the wee hours but it was like systematic torture. The toilet should have been cleaned more thoroughly also, was quite smelly.

My room was disgusting. Blood in the bathrooms. Spilled food everywhere. The room smelled like sewage and the staff didn't really offer much help when asked. Look elsewhere. St. Kilda is filled with hostels. Don't go to this one.

Not enough blankets for each bed, overbooked beds, had to sleep on someone else's, seem quite unorganized. Guy showing us to the room didn't know where the toilet was. Train your staff!!

All in all It was okay for the money. The staff helped you whereever they could and explained everything well. The breakfast in the bar downstairs was great! The kitchen equipment was a bit poorly but after the cleaning hours the kitchen was definitely clean. But unfortunately the music was a bit loud, even late at night.

Only 2 annoyances. The kitchen doesn't have full sets of utensils and only 3 bowls. The bathrooms are never really cleaned properly and often smell like wee. Upside, people are really friendly here, staff are uber helpful, bar has an awesome atmosphere whether you want to just chill or mingle. There's plenty of storage room in lockers under beds. It's good for what you pay.

Nice hostel, a little expensive for what it is. Not too far from the trams and the beach. I had a room with another room upstairs (hard to explain), so it was not a 6 bed dorm but more a 12 bed dorm...

When I first turned up I thought the place was more a pub than a hostel but it was a great place to stay. The location is right by the tram and you can get to all the good places like bars etc. My room was a 10 room and had AC and a power point next to each bed. The En suite in my room was spot on, would stay there again.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Barkly, all the staff were so welcoming and friendly. There was always something going off in the bar so never a dull evening! Such a great atmosphere! Would have stayed longer if I wasn't travelling further! Defiantly great value for money:-)

Staff were super friendly and helpful. Spacious rooms with lockers. great location near beach and trams to the city. Quiz night on a Monday is fun and the backpacker night on Fridays is good too. Really enjoyed my time here and will Defo be back!

Very expensive longstayhostel. Didn't like it. They charge for everything. Which would be ok if they'd live up to standards. They don't.

Bugs in blanket, some lockers broken by force by someone felt non secure, breakfast stoped serving at 9am even though signs said later, forgot to return deposit. Thats why it gets no higher points.
