The conditions at the hostel were excellent and the staff was very friendly. The ability to walk up to the wall was priceless and the wall is super so much more interesting when it's completely empty Although I decided to give the hostel a perfect score, I would say that the only negative comment I have is the fact that the rooms are on average $10's more a night/a person, which isn't necessarily warranted.

Highly recommended. Don't be afraid to bring your kids. We brought ours (6 and 5 years old) and it was tops.

We 2 people spent over 500 RMB for a Saturday night here, it is pretty expensive compare to most of the hostels in the village, but it turned out no shampoo for shower after hiking! No breakfast! It is dusty everywhere! Bad experience! Not recommended!!

Would definitely recommend this place! Staff is very friendly and sincerely. It was worth travelling 3+hrs from Beijing city to this charming village. Areas of improvement - hope to have daily change of food menu which already has limited dishes.

Owners had spend a lot of money for the art books and pictures but didn't spent just a few bucks for things guests really needs. In our room was no locker or cupboard, or hanger, or even a pair of nails for hanging outerwear but only small bathroom shelf for towels. Only big bath towels, so You have a nice choice: take big towel with You every time to visit shared toilet or just wash hands without towel because no towels or dryer at shared bathroom. No shampoo. Wind under the door. Overpriced!

I loved my stay in the hostel. It's so peaceful and the entire staff is so friendly and helpful. It is in a really small town in the middle of nowhere so I was a bit worried about getting there but everything went perfectly. A bit on the pricy side but still worth it. Highly recommended.

Lovely place to stay! The staff is so friendly and helpful, felt like home away from home. Luxurious, clean facilities (who has ever sat on a heated toilet seat? It's amazing!) Best hostel I ever stayed in! The family dinner is amazing too!

We had a wonderful stay at the Great Wall Box House! Our reservation was for 1 night, but we extended another night because it was so unique and interesting. Our room was beautiful with hardwood floors, fireplace, highbeam ceiling and modern bathroom. The staff was very accommodating and friendly, they made us dinner despite our late PM arrival, helped us change reservations for other parts of our trip, and took us on a guided hike of the Great Wall our first day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Can't say enough good things about this hostel. Monica and her group create an incredible environment with some wonderful activities available in the area. While the food isn't cheap, i don't know what everyone is saying about there only being expensive food but we brought some of our own and there was no fuss, but family dinner is a lot of fun. Nicer bathrooms than in my home in the states!

This hostel is in a great location, only footsteps away from the great wall. It is located in a tiny village which is lovely and quiet. There aren't really any alternative options for dining other than the hostel. The food on offer is fantastic , healthy and tasty but very expensive for a backpacker's budget. Museli with fruit and a black coffee is 50 yuan, an evening meal with the family is 65 yuan. We would have stayed for a week if we could have afforded to, because the wall is amazing!!

Great hostel, this was my second stay, enjoyed it as much as the first, being located literally on the great wall itself and 2 great routes to do! Amazing also for us as we encountered snow on the wall!

Our stay at the Great Wall Box House was excellent. We went during the winter with snow on the ground, but the staff did an excellent job ensuring we were comfortable. The hostel is right below the Great Wall and about half a mile to an access trail. This part of the wall is not touristy and very picturesque. The staff gave us detailed information about hikes on the wall helping us maximize the opportunity. Not a party hostel, but an excellent place to explore a human engineering marvel.

This is a beautiful hostel with an amazing host! Some past reviews talk about the cost for food be high but in reality your host is so wonderful and you are so well looked after that not once did I feel like I wasn't part of something special.

Highly recommended! You will never get that close to the Great Wall again. And the atmosphere with all the cats and green tea, it was so relaxing. At night you can see the clear sky with all its stars, it's amazing. The only obstacle you have to master is find Bus 25. Don't listen to the guys saying that it takes 4 hours or that the bus won't come. The bus stop is on the main street in the direction your bus from Beijing was driving before it turned left to the parking lot where it stopped.

Great place to stay (location, staff & people), but probably a little overpriced on the food and accom. Very glad we came here though, and again, warning on the taxi touts, even though i speak chinese he insisted first that the bus did not exist, then that the bus had stopped running an hour ago, then he showed me a piece of paper with the contat details of the hostel. the bus runs accross the road from the main entrance of the bus station.
