Hostel of the Week: Safestay Holland Park

Ladies and gentleman, welcome to the manor – sorry – HOSTEL. Yup, this superior hostel species is literally IN Holland Park and ideal for those who want to experience the peaceful London lyfe, away from the tourist mob. Park your FOMO fears as Holland Park tube is next door, Notting Hill and Portobello Road are a 10 minute stroll, and Kensington Palace, Soho bars – you name it – are all within easy reach.

Visited by Lord Byron and Charles Dickens, Safestay is a Grade 1 listed building with an air of Jacobean splendour, mixed with a modern, fun vibe. Downtime can be spent playing on the hot pink pool table, drinking in the bar or just plain chilling in the common areas. The décor really brings this place to life – you’ll find rainbow striped carpets, velvet arm chairs and the Girl with a Pearl Earring blowing bubble gum. Cheeky!

The grounds are what gives Safestay the royal approval – think walled gardens and the sound of bubbling blue fountains. Have breakfast in the private courtyard – Hemingway style – and watch out for the odd peacock strutting about (no lie!). You’ve also got the famous Kyoto Japanese Garden as your backyard with its resident Koi, and all sorts of birds tweeting soothing melodies all day. Immense nature in the city exists, people!

The rooms are aaaaaalll about the space, which is rare for a city hostel. Some even have balconies overlooking the gardens and the Holland Park Opera. Get your friends together with a bottle of wine and you have the best free seats in town! You can choose from private rooms right up to 32 bed dorms – ideal for groups – all with privacy curtains, electric plugs and night lamps. We all know a peaceful night’s sleep = a happy traveller 🙂
