The best travel apps

It’s not all about Whatsapp and Instagram, or at least it shouldn’t be. If you only use your phone to take selfies, gossip on Facebook or play Candy Crush, listen to this: there are many more great (and free) APPs you can download to make your phone feel less lonely and help you on your getaways around the world. Some of them are:

CITYMAPS2GO

Since we discovered it, we’ve never travelled without it: it allows you to download maps of cities (and even regions) anywhere in the world so you never run the risk of getting lost again. The best thing? It also works without an internet connection and you can create itineraries to suit your tastes.

AROUND ME

With Aroundme you can find out which petrol stations, banks, supermarkets, hospitals, restaurants and cafés are closest to you. With a simple click it saves you time and headaches.

HOSTELWORLD app

how can we forget the Hostelworld APP? Here you will find more than 33,000 hostels, millions of reviews from travellers like you and you can easily and securely book your next accommodation.

OANDA

Indispensable if you travel to countries with currencies other than your own. It’s the perfect APP for those who make a huge mess of mentally calculating the exchange rate and paying three times more for a beer thinking it’s cheap. It allows you to know the official exchange rate of all the currencies in the world and calculate exact amounts, also offline.

PICSART

Mobile phones have become the new cameras and many travellers prefer the convenience of mobile phones to carrying their SLRs around with them all the time. Besides, a selfie every now and then never hurts! With Picsart you can edit your photos in an intuitive way, there is also the option to create collages, insert texts and, in short, bring out the artist in you.

TRAVELSAFE

We never want to have accidents or emergencies on our travels, but sometimes they inevitably happen. With this APP (a mum’s favourite) you’ll have all the emergency phone numbers of the destination you’re visiting at your fingertips, from the police to the embassy. Prevention is better than cure!

PACKPOINT

If you’re one of those people with your head in the clouds and you always forget something at home, download this app before you forget it. It will help you put together a list of everything you need before your trip, but remember to check it before you leave!

GOOGLE TRANSLATE

No matter how much of a polyglot you are, an automatic translator never hurts. Google Translate is a guarantee, and although in some cases the grammar may not be 100% respected, it is also true that thanks to it you will be able to understand and explain yourself better. The APP also has a very interesting option: thanks to your camera you can scan signs and menus and translate them instantly.

WIFI FINDER

This APP helps us to find wifi networks (paid and open) near our position. Wifi, how we love you!

TRIPADVISOR

One of the best APPs for organising a trip. On Tripadvisor you can find out which restaurants and attractions are the most and best rated by millions of travellers from all over the world.
