Hostelworld says

BackHome Kuala Lumpur is in a great, central location near Petaling St and Chinatown, the central Market, Merdaka Square, KL Tower, the Islamic Art Museum and more. We like the clean and modern design of this hostel, which was rated the most popular in Kuala Lumpur at the 2011 Hoscars. There's lights and power points at each bed and 'really friendly, knowledgeable staff', according to our guests, who also tell us this is 'not a party place like some of the local hostels but perfect for chilling out and meeting people'.

Property Description

Stay at BackHome for a unique stay in a converted pre-war building located in the heritage district, with guided walks to let you experience KL just like the locals do.

BackHome is housed in a row of pre-war shophouses, carefully preserved since the 1880s. The modern interiors feature spacious dorms built around a light filled courtyard, a screening room and a buzzing hipster café that serves the best coffee in the area.

We are situated in a historic neighbourhood, with many textile, sundry shops and food outlets still being run by the same families. Popular destinations such as Chinatown, local bazaars, 100 year-old temples, a 100 year-old rainforest reserve lets you experience the many facets of Kuala Lumpur.

We aim to show you the best of what KL has to offer through our popular guided walks. These include a food tour in the last surviving Malay Village in the city, biking tours and a hike up a magnificent limestone ridge. View House Rules

One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. Deserves its good reputation - all sorts of interesting people and the staff is great: both helpful and flexible. Plus the location is perfect.

Everything from the staff to the room to the chill out area was perfect. We absolutely loved our stay here! Special shout out to Viola who was so so friendly, she really goes out of her way to learn everyone’s names and make them feel at home. Will absolutely return to this hostel in the future.

We had a great experience at the hostel. The staff were lovely and very helpful. The hostel was clean and in a good location. The cafe next door was lovely. We found the hostel social in the mornings (breakfast) and evenings. I would stay here again.

Had a lovely stay here. Rooms were spacious and clean. Huge lockers. Plug socket, light and shelf in bed space. Good location. Friendly staff. Clean bathrooms. Good laundry service. Only downside is no privacy curtains on beds.

This hostel is honestly amazing. Great staff, the beds are comfy, security is good, location is amazing, facilities are great, etc. It’s a bit pricier than a few other hostels but probably worth the money. The tours the hostel runs are also great - especially the local night market one by Ahmad (what a legend), I would highly recommend this place!

My first night was in a dorm upstairs and it was great, next night in a ground floor dorm was disappointing as the room had a really bad damp smell and atmosphere.. it was really uncomfortable and unpleasant to breathe in so that was a shame considering the place is really nice and not cheap.

Really great hostel setup. Beautiful rooms and beds, super comfy and great facilities. Felt very high end. The only thing missing for me was that there was no real atmosphere there. Perhaps it was just my experience, but I was there three nights and I almost never saw anyone in the common areas talking. There aren't enough activities at the hostel to encourage socializing and they need to make a bit more effort to create that vibe. Otherwise, really great hostel.

Really nice hostel, very clean and the private rooms are amazing it feels like a real hotel!! It’s easy enough to chat to people and the free breakfast is nice. Only downside was the location, it’s a bit outside the main touristy hub and theres nothing to do around there at night

BackHome Kuala Lumpur says

We're the only hostel in Malaysia with a guarantee that guests will receive as much care, comfort and peace as they do at home. We promise that every guests will receive personal attention, a good night's rest and peace of mind. Besides using premium bedding and cleaning the beds thoroughly after every guest, we deep clean all mattresses twice a month to make sure they are 100% hygienic. We provide more personal and common space than most other hostels in KL.
We're located right in the heart of the historical district, just a few minutes away from Masjid Jamek, Merdeka Square, Little India and Chinatown. We also have Bukit Nanas forest reserve - a million year old rainforest reserve less than 10 minutes walk away.
I personally recommend having drinks at Skybar in Traders Hotel for an up-close view of the Twin Towers at sunset.
Our main age group is between 25 and 40 years. We get less guests under 20 because of our premium price point. We're also starting to get families because they feel more secure here than in a party hostel.
