Truly beautiful hostel in the historic Hobart suburb of Battery Point, an easy walk from the airport bus. Best hostel kitchen I’ve encountered, including plenty of regularly washed tea towels! I’d definitely stay there again, in a heartbeat.

I loved my time at Montacute! Antony is a thoughtful and enthusiastic host. The facilities available are extensive and the cleanliness is impeccable. Location is fantastic - 5-10 minute walk from a variety of pubs and restaurants and 15 minute walk to inner city. I look forward to staying again!

Very homely feel to this place. A bit out of the town centre but handy for Salamanca market and the waterfront, and the ferry for MONA. Relaxed suburb with plenty of good eating and drinking. Free towels, WiFi and ample kitchen and common space. Would stay again. Keep in mind there are a couple of dogs (outside). Also got a bit cold in the evenings/ mornings, however not a problem while sleeping as the doonas were pretty thick

    Fabulous

I had a great stay at the Montacute! The owner, Ant, was a positive and joyful life force. The hostel is located perfectly - right near the Salamanca point precinct and the beautiful, historic Battery Point. I was there in mid-November and capacity was about 50% which was great given a lot of Hobart hostels weren't even operating.

    Very Good

    23 Feb 2020
Pros: The property is based in a really nice and quiet area, there was always plenty of space in the carpark and the kitchen is really well equipped! Cons: The place seems to attract a certain kind of crowd that makes it really anti social. I only had roommates well into their fourties and beyond, some of them being really noisy at night. I actually ended up sleeping on a couch in the living room most nights. As a couple or group it is probably ideal, as a solo traveller I'drather avoid it...

Due to Covid-19, I was unable to follow through with my trip to Tasmania and my planned stay at Montacute. It must have slipped my mind to cancel my reservation and with no emails received regarding my 'upcoming trip' or reminders of the booking, my stay was forgotten. I was charged an $87 fee for "my stay" in addition to the $42 already paid. When I contacted Montacute regarding this matter and in a hope to regain the funds lost, I received no contact back. Sad to see in these hard times.
