Property Description

This former monastery, dating back to the 13th century, called Antico Spedale del Bigallo, has been renovated and equipped with all the necessary comforts to offer modern travelers the same shelter and unique experience as once, in its original medieval atmosphere.

At our Bigallo Hostel, you can choose to stay in one of our 3 characteristic dormitories accommodations:

If you’re traveling with your friends, family, or in an organized group, we suggest that you choose one of our luminous dormitories – one that sleeps 5 and the other 8; an ideal solution given their spaciousness and comfort.
The decor was created by local craftsmen following designs of renaissance beds found in paintings from that time period. Each bed has its own storage space (locks can be requested at your arrival).
Each dormitory is equipped with shared bathroom with shower. It is possible to request a set of towels with a supplement of €.3,50

Sleeping in the alcoves is without doubt the most unique solution that the Bigallo Hostel offers. It is inspired by monks, that traditionally slept in small wooden alcoves. The Hostel offers 20 beds in the wooden alcoves, each alcove with two single beds, creating a spacious and luminous dormitory. The bathrooms are shared. It is possible to request a set of towels with a supplement of €. 3.50.

Private Rooms:
And if you prefer some more privacy, just choose one of our 5 double rooms (with the possibility to add one or more single beds), all equipped with private bathrooms with shower. It is also possible to add one or more single beds in the rooms. Sheets, towels and daily cleaning are included in this accommodation. View House Rules

Loved it and can't wait to go back! Pasta time was a fabulous touch but the view here and the calming atmosphere is the best thing about this hostel. The staff are so friendly and down to earth, always on hand to help and chat to.

I stayed here with my two year old son and the staff & facilities were beyond catering and we felt very welcome. The actual architecture of the building is so beautiful and the gardens and views are serene. The family pasta nights were so sweet. The actual hostel is quite far away from the centre and will cost 40-50euro to travel by taxi but worth it for how secluded and heavenly this place is.

I cannot rave enough about this gorgeous place. The hill is a pain but honestly it’s not that bad and it gives you a shared trauma between the other guests. Also on several different occasions local neighbors offered to give us rides up and down the hill. The staff was great, food was delicious, view was super beautiful. I would stay here again no questions asked. Definitely book here.

Absolutely gorgeous hostel. You have to stay here at least one night if you are visiting Florence. The view is stunning & the architecture of the building itself is impressive. Pasta time was so fun & the staff were so nice & helpful. The walk uphill from the bus isn’t as bad as it seems, and you get a good view from that walk as well. Wonderful experience!!

Had a wonderful time at this hostel. The setting is breathtaking and the calm/serene atmosphere is a nice break from hectic Venice! My only negative review would be that in the Alcove rooms it gets unbearably hot. Coming from Australia heat is no stranger but just a far warning that these rooms do get incredibly stuffy with nothing but two little fans for a room of 24, oh and the showers are only cold for a moment or two before becoming searing hot. Otherwise, fabulous place and would stay again

This hostel was definitely the coolest hostel I have ever stayed in. It was also probably the most social hostel I've been in. The only downfall is that the hill you have to walk up from the bus stop is a BEAST. Just be prepared for it- it's a solid 20 minute walk from the bus stop, all up hill. It's worth it for the views though, I promise! Great staff, clean rooms, and overall a great ambience. A memorable stay for sure.

Whoaa what an incredible hostel! Yeah the hill sucks yada yada you've heard all about it. Tbh it's not thaaaat bad and the locals definitely will give you a ride up if you ask. The view is absolutely INCREDIBLE. And the staff is so friendly, shoutout to Sylwester. Keep in mind the reception is not 24/7 so if you need an early checkout or late check in definitely let them know ahead of time. The PastaTime dinner is INCREDIBLE - and they also sell wine up there so have fun :). One of my favorites!

If you want to relax, forget about the world and enjoy the view of Chianti, this is a very good option. Unfortunately there are not many restaurants or supermarkets nearby, so, if you don't want to spend 8€ for the dish of pasta and glass of wine they offer for dinner - which is a bit too much considering its quality, you'd better have a car (especially in the we). Breakfast is free and "classical Italian", with very nice jams and pies. Wi-fi could be improved, in particular in the common area.

Super far from the city, takes at least an hour to get anywhere in Florence. Plus the giant hill is a pain to get to the hostel. The free breakfast was barely a breakfast, really just cereal and pie. The beds across from me had bed bugs. Absolutely no hostel events, nothing to do close by, no A/C and tons of mosquitoes. No WiFi unless you’re in the main reception area. No laundry or anywhere close by. Left a day earlier than planned :(
