Property Description

This former monastery, dating back to the 13th century, called Antico Spedale del Bigallo, has been renovated and equipped with all the necessary comforts to offer modern travelers the same shelter and unique experience as once, in its original medieval atmosphere.

At our Bigallo Hostel, you can choose to stay in one of our 3 characteristic dormitories accommodations:

If you’re traveling with your friends, family, or in an organized group, we suggest that you choose one of our luminous dormitories – one that sleeps 5 and the other 8; an ideal solution given their spaciousness and comfort.
The decor was created by local craftsmen following designs of renaissance beds found in paintings from that time period. Each bed has its own storage space (locks can be requested at your arrival).
Both dormitories share some bathrooms with shower on the same floor.
Ans for girls travelling, it is possible to reserve our special 5-beds dorm, spacious and with an unique gardenview, disposing of its own private bathroom with shower.
It is possible to request a set of towels with a supplement of €.3,50

Sleeping in alcoves is without doubt the most unique solution at the Bigallo Hostel. It is inspired by monks, that traditionally slept in small wooden alcoves. The Hostel offers 12 wooden alcoves, each with two single beds, within a spacious and luminous dormitory. Bathrooms are shared. It is possible to request a set of towels with a supplement of €. 3.50.

Private Rooms:
And if you prefer some more privacy, just choose one of our 4 double rooms (with the possibility to add one or more single beds), all equipped with private bathrooms with shower. It is also possible to add one or more single beds in the rooms. Sheets, towels and daily cleaning are included in this accommodation. View House Rules

The best hostel I've ever stayed in. Fernandino is a wonderful host and the communal dinners are amazing. The hostel is in a remote location which creates a very close knit, friendly community - I met wonderful people here. The other staff are so friendly and talkative, you know everyone by name. The sunset view is wonderful, and there are hikes nearby to explore the countryside. I can't recommend this place enough. Advice: Buy a bunch of bus tickets when you arrive, they're hard to get

This hostel is a hidden gem, it is a bit far from the city but that is a small sacrifice to make for this outstanding place. The hostel is a former monastery that still retains some of its features and is truly a unique place to stay. The hostel has a community vibe and the host Ferdinando makes you feel welcomed from the start. If you’re looking for a unique place with unique people, this is the place. Also the family dinner is a great touch and a great way to make connections.

Unlike any hostel I stayed at before! If you are wanting to get away from the crowds and chaos of the city, this hostel is perfect for you. Planned on stay for two nights and ended up staying 6. Thank you for the pasta nights, garden naps, and an overall incredible experience!!

We had an exceptionally nice stay at Bigallo Hostel. The dinners were amazing and bring people together. You never know who you will meet ;) Coming back from day trips felt like coming home. Our host Ferdinando always made sure that everyone feels welcome. Thanks to the location we were able to fully dive into Tuscany and enjoy beautiful sunsets form the hostel terrace. We had a great time and hope to return soon!

One of the best hostels I've been to, the only downside is that it is far from restaurants and supermarkets and that there is no air conditioning in the rooms, but it is totally worth it. The staff are lovely and helpful and the owner is a great man, the location is beautiful and the food is great

It is far from the city center. After taking the bus to the closest stop, you will still have to walk 15 minutes up a hill. The walk is totally worth it though and the lack of transportation is part of the small town vibe. As for the hostel, you are staying in a historic place and it will feel like sleeping at a missionary. It is very cold during the fall-winter. The facilities are fairly small. The owner was very nice, polite and very accommodating. The staff make you feel like royalty.

Overall I loved my staying!! Here are the good points: - I mean the view is AMAZING!! Couldn’t get more “toscan” than that - The hostel is pretty cool too, it’s an authentical Renaissance house - It’s a veery community place. You can eat all together in the evenings for pasta time and meet great people. - Fernandino and all the staff are THE KINDEST! Pain points: - it’s an hour away from the city: 30 mins bus + 30 mins walking uphill
