Property Description

This former monastery, dating back to the 13th century, called Antico Spedale del Bigallo, has been renovated and equipped with all the necessary comforts to offer modern travelers the same shelter and unique experience as once, in its original medieval atmosphere.

At our Bigallo Hostel, you can choose to stay in one of our 3 characteristic dormitories accommodations:

If you’re traveling with your friends, family, or in an organized group, we suggest that you choose one of our luminous dormitories – one that sleeps 5 and the other 8; an ideal solution given their spaciousness and comfort.
The decor was created by local craftsmen following designs of renaissance beds found in paintings from that time period. Each bed has its own storage space (locks can be requested at your arrival).
Both dormitories share some bathrooms with shower on the same floor.
Ans for girls travelling, it is possible to reserve our special 5-beds dorm, spacious and with an unique gardenview, disposing of its own private bathroom with shower.
It is possible to request a set of towels with a supplement of €.3,50

Sleeping in the alcoves is without doubt the most unique solution that the Bigallo Hostel offers. It is inspired by monks, that traditionally slept in small wooden alcoves. The Hostel offers 24 beds in the wooden alcoves, each alcove with two single beds, creating a spacious and luminous dormitory. The bathrooms are shared. It is possible to request a set of towels with a supplement of €. 3.50.

Private Rooms:
And if you prefer some more privacy, just choose one of our 4 double rooms (with the possibility to add one or more single beds), all equipped with private bathrooms with shower. It is also possible to add one or more single beds in the rooms. Sheets, towels and daily cleaning are included in this accommodation. View House Rules

I had such an amazing time at Fernandinos Hostel. The building itself is just such a wonderful piece of history. The view from the balcony is stunning, where you can enjoy a sunset over Florence. Everything was clean, food was delicious (breakfast with self-made jam!!!). Further, the staff is quite knowledable and really take their time to attend to your needs. If you're on a motorbike they can recommend nice routes and within Florence itself they know every corner! Totally recommend the hostel!

I booked this Hostel by sheer mistake and it was the best thing I did. I booked it on its last night do the season and I am glad I stayed there. There’s a hike to the top but trust me it’s worth it. The staff is helpful and very hospitable, they gave dinner and had wine to go with it. This location has a beautiful view and it’s filled with history. Take a break from the city Hostel and stay here it’s worth it.

This has to be the best hostel I’ve ever been to! A beautiful old monastery in the hills just outside the city. The hostel is situated on a hill overlooking Florence so the view is absolutely breathtaking especially at night! I liked it so much that I actually went there twice. And every time it was the highlight of the trip! Oh and the owners are really nice! Pasta night is amazing btw! Great pasta and a chance to meet the other guests.

I've stayed in hundreds of hostels and this is, without doubt, one of the best. The building is unique, the communal supper is amazing, Ferdinando is a legend, the view is extraordinary - it's a once in a lifetime experience. It's not for everyone. If you're intimidated by taking local buses, if you're not that interested in history and you like air conditioning, it's not for you. If you want to experience a monastery and meet some fascinating people, this is the place for you. Enjoy!

One of the most unique hostels I've ever stayed. Really nice view and air from the hostel. It's more suitable for travelers with less planned visit in Florence as there's distance from the city center and a 20 mins walk up hill, however, for those who are looking for chilling out and spiritual relaxation, this is a very good option. They also offer nice dinner time when you can meet with other travelers to socialize!

Although it’s a bit far from the city center and Duoma it’s a wonderful, clean hostel with a warm and inviting staff. I highly recommend taking the cooking class that is offered Tuesday and Thursday. It was a lot of fun and delicious! Note the free walking tour is at another hostel right off the Duoma stop on the metro. Take the tour and get a discount on the cooking class. 😄

Great, quirky hostel with a fun vibe. The biggest downside was the location and the relatively few and infrequent buses available to get to and from Florence. However staff were super helpful and it was a very unique place to stay.
