Property Description

This former monastery, dating back to the 13th century, called Antico Spedale del Bigallo, has been renovated and equipped with all the necessary comforts to offer modern travelers the same shelter and unique experience as once, in its original medieval atmosphere.

At our Bigallo Hostel, you can choose to stay in one of our 3 characteristic dormitories accommodations:

Dormitories:
If you’re traveling with your friends, family, or in an organized group, we suggest that you choose one of our luminous dormitories – one that sleeps 5 and the other 8; an ideal solution given their spaciousness and comfort.
The decor was created by local craftsmen following designs of renaissance beds found in paintings from that time period. Each bed has its own storage space (locks can be requested at your arrival).
Each dormitory is equipped with shared bathroom with shower. It is possible to request a set of towels with a supplement of €.3,50

Alcoves:
Sleeping in the alcoves is without doubt the most unique solution that the Bigallo Hostel offers. It is inspired by monks, that traditionally slept in small wooden alcoves. The Hostel offers 20 beds in the wooden alcoves, each alcove with two single beds, creating a spacious and luminous dormitory. The bathrooms are shared. It is possible to request a set of towels with a supplement of €. 3.50.

Private Rooms:
And if you prefer some more privacy, just choose one of our 5 double rooms (with the possibility to add one or more single beds), all equipped with private bathrooms with shower. It is also possible to add one or more single beds in the rooms. Sheets, towels and daily cleaning are included in this accommodation. View House Rules

This has to be the best hostel I’ve ever been to! A beautiful old monastery in the hills just outside the city. The hostel is situated on a hill overlooking Florence so the view is absolutely breathtaking especially at night! I liked it so much that I actually went there twice. And every time it was the highlight of the trip! Oh and the owners are really nice! Pasta night is amazing btw! Great pasta and a chance to meet the other guests.

This will go down as the BEST. HOSTEL. EVER! WOW. It is true to the Italian feel, along with being set in the outskirts of Florence in the Tuscany hills, it will give you that Italian feel during hour stay there. If you want to be close to the hub of the city this isn’t the place for you as it is a a trek to get to the city centre. But if you WANT to get out of the regular city feel, have a peaceful and quiet surrounding in a TRULY authentic Italian place - THIS IS FOR YOU! Don’t walk - RUN!

One of the most unique hostels I've ever stayed. Really nice view and air from the hostel. It's more suitable for travelers with less planned visit in Florence as there's distance from the city center and a 20 mins walk up hill, however, for those who are looking for chilling out and spiritual relaxation, this is a very good option. They also offer nice dinner time when you can meet with other travelers to socialize!

This was the best hostel I've ever stayed in! That being said, if you're looking for a convenient place in the city centre then this might not be for you - it's a 35 minute bus ride followed by a 20 minute walk uphill to reach - but I promise it's worth it! We were really unsure about the location when we booked, but we don't regret it at all! The staff are so helpful/friendly, they provide pasta nights every night (pasta and wine) for 8 euros - we did this every night! Would definitely go back.

Although it’s a bit far from the city center and Duoma it’s a wonderful, clean hostel with a warm and inviting staff. I highly recommend taking the cooking class that is offered Tuesday and Thursday. It was a lot of fun and delicious! Note the free walking tour is at another hostel right off the Duoma stop on the metro. Take the tour and get a discount on the cooking class. 😄

The staff, the view, the entire hostel is wonderful. It’s a bit of a hike up the hill and outside of Florence—be prepared for that. But you will be rewarded with an amazing view of the city, beautiful gardens, and an unique hostel with a lot of history. My only complaints are the poor WiFi and mosquitos. The pasta dinners make a great atmosphere for meeting other travelers, and the gentleman on staff arranged a wine tour which I really loved. Say hello to the sweet hostel cat while you’re there!

Great, quirky hostel with a fun vibe. The biggest downside was the location and the relatively few and infrequent buses available to get to and from Florence. However staff were super helpful and it was a very unique place to stay.

There was no hot water to make a tea. The coffee machine that supposed to have a boiled water, was broken and instead of clean hot water I've got a coffee water, unsuitable for making tea. They didn't have electric kettle and refused to make me a hot water in the pot. Finally the receptionist boiled me about 150 ml of hot water in the microwave which I am not sure was only heated or really boiled. No self-served kitchen. For laundry machine receptionist asked 10 euros without drying

Awesome hostel. The history was amazing. Staff were wonderful. Would be great with a group and as it was the start low season I can’t comment on social rating. Clean bathrooms and rooms. Lockers were a little small. The walk there was definitely a pain but definitely worth it. Awesome spot to get out of the city and enjoy the countryside. Good luck with the hostel in Switzerland!
