Property Description

This former monastery, dating back to the 13th century, called Antico Spedale del Bigallo, has been renovated and equipped with all the necessary comforts to offer modern travelers the same shelter and unique experience as once, in its original medieval atmosphere.

At our Bigallo Hostel, you can choose to stay in one of our 3 characteristic dormitories accommodations:

Dormitories:
If you’re traveling with your friends, family, or in an organized group, we suggest that you choose one of our luminous dormitories – one that sleeps 5 and the other 8; an ideal solution given their spaciousness and comfort.
The decor was created by local craftsmen following designs of renaissance beds found in paintings from that time period. Each bed has its own storage space (locks can be requested at your arrival).
Each dormitory is equipped with shared bathroom with shower. It is possible to request a set of towels with a supplement of €.3,50

Alcoves:
Sleeping in the alcoves is without doubt the most unique solution that the Bigallo Hostel offers. It is inspired by monks, that traditionally slept in small wooden alcoves. The Hostel offers 20 beds in the wooden alcoves, each alcove with two single beds, creating a spacious and luminous dormitory. The bathrooms are shared. It is possible to request a set of towels with a supplement of €. 3.50.

Private Rooms:
And if you prefer some more privacy, just choose one of our 5 double rooms (with the possibility to add one or more single beds), all equipped with private bathrooms with shower. It is also possible to add one or more single beds in the rooms. Sheets, towels and daily cleaning are included in this accommodation. View House Rules

We absolutely loved our stay here! The staff is super nice and lovely and made us feel welcome straight from the start. The walk from the bus station to the hostel is long but it’s part of the experience and the view is amazing! We would highly recommend this place, you won’t regret staying here! We already miss this place so much and are for sure coming back!

I loved my stay here sooo much, I was a little nervous because of how far away it is and the walk from the bus. But it isn't hard at all, just catch bus 23b and the walk uphill is so worth it for this place. The building itself is so beautiful and ancient and the staff are beyond lovely! Pasta time is really good value, so tasty and a great way to meet people :) Will definitely come back one day!

Amazing hostel in the Tuscan countryside near Florence. Easy access to the city but the perfect place to relax and unwind. 800 years of history in this old building makes for a charming stay. Excellent value for money for a private room and really enjoyed the 'pasta time' dinners. Highly recommend.

Awesome. Amazing place to stay with rich history. Great terrace, garden and starry sky. Great view at Florence from the hostel. Super friendly staff. Nice hiking trail just outside the hostel. A minor inconvenience with bus not going all the way due to road works during the evening/night (21:00-06:00). Very little vegan options during breakfast.

This hostel was an amazing experience!! I was a bit skeptical at first when booking since it is outside the city but it is 100% worth it! There is so much history in this place, the view over Florence (especially at sunset) is breath taking and the staff is amazing and knowledgeable! Plus the rooms are comfortable and large. I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a new experience!

AMAZING!! One of the best parts of my Europe trip!! Loved every second of it! Was hesitant because of the location at first but it is 100% the best choice I’ve made! Beautiful views, friendly staff, tons of history, great pasta nights and even better people staying there! Thank you all so much!!!

Beautiful compound in a pretty difficult-to-reach area. Bigollo is, however, a pleasant and quiet place to stay in. The compound is also used to host events such as concerts and wedding functions, which attests to its grandeur. The 8-shared room which I stayed in was also massive. Tip: Several other guests I had spoken to decided to hitchhike up the slope to the hostel, which is a 20-minute steep hike that is unlit at some parts. Considerable option, since the road is uncrowded.

Lovely spot. Great sunset. Hostel has a lot of character. Breakfast has great variety! For 8€ you can get the wine and pasta which is nice to meet the other guests. The pasta is mostly pasta and tomato sauce. And the walk up the hill is quite tough, no path, but all part of the adventure getting to the hostel and a very beautiful walk. The 23B runs frequently to the city, easy to catch. A suggestion would be maybe a couple couches, to sit and hang out with others/read books/relax

    Fabulous

The hostel was a fun experience! Fun people and a unique building. The one big downside to staying here was the travel time to and from the hostel into the city. The bus from the city is around 50min and drops you off at the bottom of a hill which takes around 20min to walk up. There is no sidewalk and cars drive very quickly on this road so we ended up paying for a taxi the other times. Which was an additional cost to our trip, costing around 40 euros 1 way. The breakfast was disappointing.
