For my two days in Tokyo chose to stay at Shimokita for some slower-pace in an up and coming neighborhood. Althou Shimokita Hostel is the only hostel in that area, it does not disappoint! Yes, the primary accomodation for guests are 'capsule' (for more like a box) bunk bed, but for a short visit like mine, it's perfect. Got perfect sleep! The staff are super friendly, a male staff even accompanied me for dinner at a nearby Izakaya, big thanks to him! Great location, definitely would stay again!

The hostel was in a great little neighborhood full of fun things to explore. The bunks are relatively spacious and feel very cozy. The shared space didn’t seem to draw too much traffic, but with the endless things to do in Tokyo, it’s not a huge surprise guests aren’t hanging around.

A newly opened hostel on the south side of Shimokitazawa station. Took a gamble booking here when there were still no reviews online at the time, but it was a great experience. Stayed in a single dormitory pod. The location is perfect, and the staff are mostly quite kind and helpful. My only complaint is that it’s a little expensive as hostels go, and the lack of a kitchen and laundry facilities does not really reflect the price that you pay per night. That being said, I’ll definitely be back!

Really nice hostel, modern and clean. The area is nice, very close to station and quick train ride to Shibuya. There isn't a lot happening in the hostel, so don't expect much of a party vibe. Really enjoyed my stay here.

The staff was very friendly when checking into the albeit small, but clean facilities. Best thing about it was the neighborhood- it’s got a bounty of thrift/vintage stores all around and only a few minutes by train from Shinjuku. WiFi is free but tends to drop off pretty frequently. The showers generally have shampoo and body wash in them for use, and if needed you can rent a towel for the duration of your stay for a couple hundred yen.

Great neighbourhood and great staff! I forgot something there and they were quick to respond and mail it to me right away! Space was very small though and it shared a building with a hostess bar.

Nice little place, very clean, although there was only a small area to socialise. The beds were super comfy and private. Everything was very close together though, which is kind of annoying if you’re trying not to wake people. They had locks for cases, which is a definite plus. They also had a safe for your valuables, but it was way too small if you’re someone who carries around a lot of technology. The area and clientele is safe and trustworthy, so security isn’t so much a problem anyway.

The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were clean, and the location was excellent for Shimo-kita. The staff was very friendly and they spoke English well. I overheard one of them spend several minutes on the phone, helping a traveller track down a shopping bag left on the train. A few things I didn't like - not enough slippers for all guests. No place for luggage, so halls are crowded/cluttered. Very small common area relative to the number of beds. Valuables safes for are unmounted.

The hostel is quite overpriced, the beds are uneededly large which is where I could see some room to save. The staff tried their best and were very friendly but often the language barrier was quite difficult. No recommendations of nearby restaurants or bars for English speaking guests, a tagged map on the wall would go a long way. My experience of shimokatizawa was quite hard to talk to people and the hostel was quite similar. More like a dorm roomed hotel. The hipster vibe is also a cold one.
