About

Located in the centre of the Isle of Skye, this former Post Office offers a warm and friendly environment. The hostel is noticeable for its vibrant yellow colour along with its imaginative interior. The spacious kitchen and dining room, housed in the original sorting room, is the perfect place to meet other backpackers whilst enjoying the fabulous view across Portree Bay to the Cuillins from the window.

The hostel, once the main post office for the island, has been converted into a hostel with bags of character whilst being well provided with excellent facilities. The reception and lounge is the original post office counter area, still with the original safe, clock, service counter and access, and WiFi throughout the hostel.

Our hostel is easy to find, public transport is a minute's walk and parking, shops, tourist information and parking a short walking distance. With rooms range from 4 bedded to 12 bedded, along with offering family friendly and mixed dorms

Great and spacious kitchen but a very strict schedule. Terrible shower that doesn’t let the water run, you have to press the button for the water to flow and the release is instant with the end of water flow. Toilets are hard to flush as well and requite a lot of skills to operate.

The hostel was clean and painted in cheery colors - including the exterior in bright yellow, which made it easy to spot coming into town on the bus. The commons room was huge with multiple tables and plenty of room to cook, clean up and store food (4 refrigerators, so no crowding). The dorms were spacious and airy. The bathrooms offered 3 private cubicles with a sink as well as a toilet in each. There was also a dry room for our rain gear. All in all, one of the nicer hostels I've stayed in.

I booked for three nights. But my up bunk bed just under a roof beam. It is inconvenient and my forehead might hit the cross beam. Because the other bunk bed in the room is no occupied, I asked the receptionist if I can move to another bed. She refused. The second unhappy thing is they ask to pay by cash. It is really rare in hostel. No TV no shower gel here. But most of other hostels have the facilities.
