A True Gem in Cameron – My First Ever HostelWorld Review (Well Earned!)
Okay, full honesty—I’m not a HostelWorld reviewer type, nor did I dig deep into the reviews. I usually glance at the rating and think anything in the high 8’s should be good enough. But after some stays around Malaysia, I’ve learned: shoot for 9.0+ if you want real quality.
I found Hikers Sleep Port after a not-so-great experience at another hostel that didn’t even have lockers—left me feeling uneasy about my bags. That’s when I found this place. And yes, they do have lockers, but guess what? I didn’t even use them—because I felt completely safe. They have clear signs: no non-guests allowed without host approval, and it’s enforced with key card entry. Love that.
From the moment you walk in, it sets a tone—no shoes inside (with lovely wooden floors and tidy racks to leave your footwear). A peaceful vibe.
They live up to their name too—Hikers Sleep Port. On the wall are hiking recommendations, and the lovely Kazza at reception not only checked me in with a smile but also shared amazing hiking tips and town suggestions. Plus, they offer tours right from the hostel, so no need to deal with overpriced agencies in town.
The shared space? Thoughtfully designed. Filtered drinking water straight from the sink with a legit filtration system. Dish soap in a proper dispenser (the kind you’d find in high-end places in the West). A comfy window seating area with an Asian-style floor setup—perfect for rainy day views and a good read. Their book collection? So good. I picked up a Malaysian history book and was genuinely drawn in.
Facilities? Three toilets and three showers with hot water, toilet paper, and even the Asian spray option (you know what I mean). Spotlessly clean. A designated smoking area outside that honestly felt more like a chill-out zone—clean, no smoky smell, just relaxed.
Now, the dorm: I stayed in a shared space with mattresses lined side-by-side. No curtains, no bunks. And still—one of the comfiest sleeps I’ve had. Two pillows, cozy blanket, and real single-room-level comfort. Honestly more comfortable than all the fancy bunk setups I’ve experienced in Singapore.
Turns out, the owner is a realtor—and you can tell. This place has been built with love and deep intention. And oh yes, they serve a light breakfast in the morning too. Huge plus.
I’m sure I missed a few great things, but to sum it up: if you’re coming to Cameron Highlands, stop scrolling and book this place. It’s earned this glowing review. Thank you, Hikers Sleep Port team—I’ll definitely be back. 🙏
