The Hostel

At The Hostel we provide comfortable accommodation at great rates! We understand that whether travelling as a tourist, backpacker or getting away with friends, comfort and budget are high on the list of priorities - we provide that and more.
Located directly opposite Haymarket Train Station in the West End, The Hostel is only a 15-minute walk to the West End of Princes Street. We are also opposite the city's busiest bus interchange so you will have no problems transporting yourself in and out of the neighbourhood.
Edinburgh Castle and the famous Royal Mile are a must-see and are easily accessible on foot or by public transport. Right on our doorstep, we have the wonderful St Mary's Cathedral, a popular tourist landmark. An easy 15 - 20 minute stroll is the infamous Grassmarket area & there is a range of bars and restaurants within 100 meters of The Hostel.
Please read all the details below before you book for an understanding of why we think 'The Hostel' is the place for you to stay in Edinburgh for the single traveller or groups of up to 95!

*Free Luggage Storage for just one suitcase. If you have more than one bag, we can only receive if there is availability and will also have to pay the extra volume
*Laundry (wash and dry for 8) this is subject to availability as hostel laundry is done in house.

In case of violation of the Hostel rules, following fines we will be applied:
Eating inside the room (£10)
Smoking in a none designated area (£10)
If you lose your access key (£5 ) as well as the locker key (£13)
Checkout after 11h00 (£10)
Misconduct with the Hostel's regiment. ( amount charged according to the severity of the conduct)

PLEASE NOTE that there are limited electrical sockets in the dormitories. These plugs can only be used for charging mobile phones and laptops. Using these plugs for anything else will automatically shut off the power. Items left to charge are done so at the owners own risk and the hostel cannot be held responsible for any items in the rooms or the public areas. There are extra sockets in the public areas. We ask guests to please remove items when they have finished charging to allow other guests access to the sockets.


Other Important Information:
* Children under 18 are not permitted in the dorm rooms. Anyone booking children into one of our dorm rooms will not be allowed to stay and will be required to find themselves alternative accommodation.
* ALL guests checking into the hostel must have a photographic ID with them in the form of passport, driving license etc. Unfortunately check in will not be permitted unless a photo ID is provided.
* No pets are permitted in the hostel
* We do not have lift access in the hostel and all rooms are accessible by stairs only
* Free Internet Access Available
* Check in is from 14h00 and check out is before 11h00. Luggage can be left with us outside these times.
* Late check in fee of £10 per hour. Must inform us before 22h00 on the day on arrival if late check in is required.


The female dorm is only available for booking by females. If a male reserves this room your booking will be cancelled and the deposit will not be refunded. All other dorms are mixed sex.
*Triple rooms consist of a lower double bed and upper single bed.
*Family room consists of 3 single bunks and 1 lower double bunk.

Due to the high demand for accommodation in Edinburgh over New Year, guests will be asked to settle 50% of their total amount, which is non-refundable, one month prior to arrival when booked into the hostel between:
29 December - 2 January (Inclusive)
If cancelling for these dates we require no less than 2 weeks notice for there to be no further charges made to your credit card. Cancelling within 2 weeks of your arrival date will see the total remaining balance of your bill charged to the credit card details provided to us with your booking.

NON REFUNDABLE RATE CONDITIONS - Bookings made on a non refundable rate are non refundable and no modifications or cancellations are permitted. Full payment will be taken in full when the booking is made to the card provided at the time of booking. Deposits are paid to Hostelworld and the balance is charged at the Hostel

For STANDARD RATE BOOKINGS, Cancellations must be received by 14h00, 2 days prior to your arrival date to prevent any penalty fees being charged to your credit card. If you have booked with an agent online or in person, any deposit made to them is non-refundable unless this has been previously arranged with them. Cancelling a booking within 2 days of the arrival date or failure to arrive at the hostel on your booked day of arrival will see the equivalent of one nights room rate charged to the credit card details provided to us with the booking and your booking will be cancelled for any further nights you have booked.

Group Bookings

Please note that if you are a group of 8 or more people different policies and additional supplements may apply. Disturbing other residents will also result in a penalty charge, the amount will be determined on a case by case basis.

On street parking is available in pay and display bays which are payable between the hours of 0830 and 1830hrs Monday to Saturday. Parking is free overnight and on Sundays only. We do not have private parking at the hostel. There is also a 24 hour NCP Car Park nearby on Castle Terrace.
