The location couldn't be any better - 20mins walk to city, trams/train station nearby, cinema and Chappell Street very closeby. St Kilda is not far either. The guesthouse is weathered and creaky but kept clean. The only dirty/messy stuff could only be blamed on the guests (I had a few shockers in my room). The mattress I had, could do with replacing as it was quite worn compared to the others in my room. All in all...great place. Oh and if stairs are a problem for you, you might reconsider.

Best price/value ratio! Rooms&Bathrooms are clean, quiet place although you are quick to CBD by train. Best accommodation I had in Australia. No loud backpackers. Great service at 24/7 reception! Definitely recommand that place and will stay there next time I am in Melbourne.

This is a great place to start your day tours in inner Melbourne and there are loads of places to go to around the hostel, especially Chapel Street is the place to be !!!

Pros: Excellent price, and the location is decent. It's about a 20 min walk to the CBD. Nice cafes near hostel. Small fridge in room and laundry ($4 per machine). Cons: Room was tiny and had little bugs swarming the light/walls. Window had been bolted so it opened just a crack and it was overwhelmingly hot (no air con). Shared bathrooms got messy throughout the day. Hall was getting painted, so it stank of fumes. Wifi iffy in room. Signs on every surface telling you what to do. Offputting.

Really enjoyed our stay. The guesthouse had a homely feel. The free tea and coffee throughout the day was great!

The guest rooms were unbelievably hot, with very little ventilation, and very little light.

Good things first: Breakfast is included and good. However, the walls are probably made of paper, the noise in the hotel is unbearable. The rooms are, even for a cheap hotel/guesthouse, very tiny, we were not even able to place both of our backpacks on the floor. The clearmont is located in south yarra (outside of the center), but the good public transport of Melbourne allows you to reach the city center easily. Arriving after midnight, the night clerk was very helpful with everything.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. If you are a couple definitely pay the extra $10 for the bigger room, we had a bunk and was pretty tight. Clean rooms - with TV, fridge and fan! Lovely bathrooms which were spotless. FREE brekkie. I will stay here again. It's guest places like this that makes you wonder why people pay so much for hotel rooms.

Overall a good place to stay. Perfect location, good beds, friendly staff. Toilets could be cleaner sometimes, and some of them were broken as well.

Located 100 metres from South Yarra train station-very handy location. Rooms very basic and very small but clean. Bathrooms very clean. Free breakfast in the morning was great although some mornings was totally over crowded with people. No cooking facitlities other than a microwave either which was limiting. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Rooms were hot with little ventilation and supplied with fan which was ok if you were on the bottom bunk as this was as far as the breeze would reach.

This \"Guest House\" is what I would describe as \"not knowing what it wants to be\"... It is not a Hotel and it is not a Hostel. Yes, it has a kitchen but not any way to cook. No stove, no cooking appliances etc. It has a microwave and some plates. We stayed in a twin room which was so small that you had to walk in and \"reverse\" out. You can not be in the room at the same time without one having to stay in the bed. Window was bolted so you could not open it more than 0.1 meters, i.e. no fresh air.

I have no complaints about Claremont Guesthouse other than the lack of air conditioning and elevator, meaning that the room can be stuffy especially in summer, and guests have to climb the stairs with their luggages, Plus points are: good location, general cleanliness and availability of Internet services. Although there is no security guard, the main door is locked and guests can only access the hotel by pressing the intercom button or entering a pin number.

Well look-after bathroom with poor water pressure. Old bedroom but clean sheet and bed. Super helpful front-desk staff.

I was very surprised by the quality of this hostel which we had read was decent. The rooms are extremely pokey, bathrooms have mainly cold water with weak shower pressure, bathrooms were unclean. Although we stayed 2 nights, we were not given towels for the 2nd night. Staff were irritable and unwilling to give advice which dampened our image of the place even more. I highly recommend that you think of other places to stay.

Excellent Value - Good Breakfast which is included in the price - as well as free wi fi. Situated in a great safe location it is about a 45 min walk to the centre however a train station is on your door step. I would say if possible try and get yourself located on the 2nd floor as it is less noisy (banging from above) overall 9.5 / 10. Getting a bathroom is never a problem 2 bathrooms are shared between 7 or 8 rooms
