I am in the age group of the parents of most of the young people who stay here, but i appreciated having a double room with an ensuite that was well away from the lift and noise. It was comfortable, clean and half the price of a hotel room! So i certainly recomend staying here whatever your age!

I liked this hostel, but a lot of the people were living there and were already in a very set group, which made it a bit harder to meet people. My first room was very clean, but my second room was very messy and smelly. The common area and the garden were very nice and the bathrooms were clean. The free wifi and free breakfast were a definite plus.

I love habitat. It's such a friendly homely place. The staff are great also. The pub crawl and BBQ are great additions also. Stay here when in Melbourne!

Very bad location! not close to anything. St. Kilda is not the best place to stay. Also too big hostel and like many other in Australia lots of people living there.

Thanks Isis, for staying with us at Habitat HQ. I am really sorry you didn't find our location as fantastic as we do. St Kilda is Melbourne’s much loved bay side suburb which encompasses all that is Melbourne with a bit of a sea breeze. In less then a 10 minute walk from out front door you are in the vicinity of St Kilda’s fabulous shops, music venues, restaurants, cafes and parks. In less then 15 minutes you are on the beach, watching the beautiful sunset and taking happy snaps of the super cute penguins or on Chapel Street sipping a coffee in between your window shopping. In less then 25 minutes you are in Melbourne city centre soaking up the vibrancy of Australia’s arts and culture capital. We hope you enjoy the rest of your travels, Katie and the Habitat HQ crew

I had a great time here at habitat. The staff were friendly and everybody was so welcoming. There was kareoke on the tuesday that i was there and it was one of the best nights ive had so far. In austrlia. There was also free breakfast which is a bonus.

We had high expectations of Habitat but were really disappointed, $34 a night to stay in a dark tiny 10 bed dorm that stunk. No room to put ur bags, our room door didnt even shut properly, I got a bad back from the mattress as could feel all the springs. Got told off by the washing up police because we left a chopping board unwashed while we were eating our food, reception staff were rude when my friend asked to use the 1 hour Internet on the PC's. Save your money and go to Base, its way better!

Thanks Linzi for taking the time to review your stay with us, I am sorry that your expectations were not met. We endeavour to create nice inhabitable bedrooms for our guests to stay in. The rooms do get cleaned daily; unfortunately when you are sharing with 9 other people the state of the room does seem to depend on how considerate your fellow travellers are. House keeping does their best by bagging up items left out on the floor, removing rubbish, putting up reminders to guests to tidy up after themselves and air freshening the room. I am sorry you didn’t enjoy your nights sleep on out mattress; if you had come to reception we would have replaced it for you. Also if there was a problem with the door not shutting properly we would have been more than happy to fix it immediately it as security is one of our main priorities. In response to previous comments regarding the cleanliness of the Kitchen, we have kitchen cops to monitor the area during the peak times. We do ask all guests to clean up immediately after themselves so other guests can also use the facilities and so items don’t get “forgotten” and left out on the bench. I am surprised a receptionist was rude when considering your request for Wifi, it is a common request which we get asked throughout every shift and we are usually more than happy to sell internet time to our guests. We honestly believe we provide a fantastic product for $34. You get so much more than just a place to sleep you also get free breakfast, clean linen, free Wifi, 24 hour access, free parking and loads of free events like BBQ’s, bar hops and walking tours. One thing that also makes us unique is that we don’t have a bar so guests can bring in their own alcohol, a great way of saving money. We hope you enjoy the rest of you backpacking adventures across Australia, Katie and the Habitat HQ crew.

This is definatly a party hostel in a party neighborhood. As a guy who's years past group drinking games I found myself wishing for a quiet space to hang out and play guitar. That said, if I were 22 and wanted to be in a safe, fun place to booze it up and blow off steam this would be perfect. They keep the place very clean, there are multiple layers of security including under bunk lockers, assuming you have your own lock, and a short walk to lots of St Kilda stuff. Staff are great!

Thanks Hal for taking the time to review us. Cheers for acknowledging the awesomness of our staff and noticing our Housekeepers efforts. I am sorry you couldn't find a quite spot to play our guitars; coming towards the end of the summer season things are starting to settle down again so if you do return to see us hopefully you will also see a change in the Hostel vibe. Happy travels and we will look you up you little guest house if we come to Seattle, Katie and the Habitat HQ

I cannot recommend this hostel enough. I was staying there for the grand prix. It was in a great location for Albert park but also for the city. It only took a short tram ride to get to the city centre. The staff were great, the hostel was so clean, it had excellent facilities, great activities every day and night. Definitely stay here!

Thanks Saera for choosing to stay with us over the fabulous Grand Prix weekend. Its great to read that you appreciated the effort that the staff invest into Habitat and that you got to utilise our fantastic facilities. We hope to see you again next year, Katie and the Habitat HQ crew

Good hostel to stay in. The place is enormous and packed with real young mainly English people. Facilities are good, although not very clean all the time. Staff is mostly very friendly and helpful although there are some temporary staff members who could receive some friendliness training of the rest of the crew! Place is located in St. Killde with a direct tram connection to Melbourne centre and very close to the beach and supermarket. Would stay here again.
