I put security as very poor as there was a homeless man who one night slept in a guests bed and on the morning we were leaving going around the kitchen stealing peoples food!!! Also when trying to arrange either bus or taxi the receptionist that night knew very little and had trouble operating the computer. Bit bizarre!! There is also a courtyard where people hung out until 11pm. Not a problem as such but can be very noisy so no chance of a early night kip!

Kitchen not clean usually, very noisy late at night, other than that a good place, with nice staff. Bit more management of the visitors needed, with rules maintained.

The most terrible hostel in my 6 months in australia!! Checked out before departure date. Everybody was drunk and took drugs all day long. First night somebody was wasted and tried to get in our double room middle in the night by kicking against the door. The kitchen was disgusting and one girl at reception really unfriendly. Happy that we had a bathroom in our room so I didn't need to see the shared bathroom. The room was great and location is amazing but felt very uncomfortable and unsecure!!

We're very sorry you had a negative experience. We do have a party vibe on some days and enjoy our sociable communal areas, but to say that everyone was on drugs seems a little misguided as we are very serious about responding quickly to anyone using illegal substances and have a no tolerance policy. We hope this doesn't effect your overall travels and wish you all the best for your onward adventures!

Kitchen isn't kept clean, lots of flies and bits of food. Dorms could do with new bedding, Other hostels in St Kilda for the same price have a lot better facilities and atmosphere.

Driveway was full of stoners on beanbags, stairwells too - bathroom was pretty grimy and stinky, like ten sweaty teenage boys for a week.

“Home travellers” is the most recommendable hostel I’ve ever been. I’ve been travelling through Australia and the US for more than one month, but the best experiences I’ve made were all results of the awesome atmosphere, the friendly staff and the feeling of really coming home, everytime I checked in in this little heaven in the heart of St Kilda. Conclusion: “Home travellers” is definitely a place worth staying!

Could have been a better experience if the bathrooms were cleaned. Cleaner left adjoins door to dorms open meaning everyone was using our bathroom meant for 8 people. Left us feeling a little unsure of the security of our bags in our room aswell. Other than the bathroom the atmosphere was good people were friendly.

I'm glad you enjoyed the atmosphere and people- we love our friendly large family here! I am sorry you were not happy with the standard of your bathroom, I can assure you we have contract cleaners that clean each and every bathroom every morning. You were in the one setup that shares a bathroom with one other room- I know people tend to leave the entrance door open, we try close it whenever we can. I hope you enjoy the rest of your travels anyway! :)

My boyfriend and I rented out one of the private rooms for the night to be close to town, the room was of hotel quality in a hostel like environment.

Not a great hostel, staff friendly enough but not a great atmosphere while I was there, loud music playing all the time and really poor kitchen and communal area. One shower and toilet (in same room) for two rooms - so eight people - meaning if someone's having a shower you can't use the toilet until they've finished! Good location but I wouldn't stay there again.

Nice room, a god bed and a really good bathroom in the 5 dorm mixed ensuite. In two minutes walk you're at the bar-street of St Kilda and in five minutes the beach. Lovely area.
