easy place to find, staff were around and friendly, dorm room pretty crowded, I guess the upstairs large dorm room would have been better and cheaper to stay in. WIFI is great, deck is nice and this is a no hassle kind of place. Easy to meet people and DJ sent us to the best seafood place I have ever been to. Close to Metro Subway and the University night life. Good place to stay in Seoul

There are only 2bathrooms, so I had to wait for the toilet when somebody was taking a shower!! Anyway, the location is really good!! I could enjoy my time in Korea.

This hostel was great! Hosts were nice and helpful. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable. The only downside I found was the location and it was difficult for us to find the hostel in the middle of the night.

The location, facilities, and rooms were great. However if you are after a party atmosphere then this isnt quite the best place to stay, there are no communal areas and it's just generally not set out in a way that's conducive to meeting people. Though if you are after a quiet place with convenient transport within walking distance, then it's certainly value for money.

Very friendly staff! And I especially loved their great taste in food, shown from the offering of the delicious toast + strawberry jam for breakfast

Very nice hostel and staff except for one thing, there were only two restrooms for about 40 people. The only two showers were in the restrooms so all of the 5 mornings I stayed there I had to wait for really long, there was a line. They should make another restroom without shower.

The first time I stayed at Hong-dae Pencil Guesthouse & Hostel was on January 22. On that occasion I stayed in a semi-private room in the Hostel portion, otherwise known as "Pencil 2". The facilities, staff, atmosphere, and location were all very good; as was the cleanliness. I stayed at the Guesthouse portion, or "Pencil 1", on two occasions; on March 3 and on March 10. On the second occasion there was too much noise being made by other guests in the common area after 1:00 AM.

This is the second time I have stayed at this hostel and I plan on staying again on future trips to Seoul. The area price and location are perfect for my needs when visiting the city, The ease of access from the main Seoul station is excellent with addition of the new airport line making it even more convenient to stay at this hostel. The private set up of the rooms makes for a comfortable stay for those wishing to have a little more privacy and freedom on there trips.

Great location, staffs are very helpful and informative. I really enjoyed Korean style lunch in your hostel. Actually i didn't prepare well about Seoul though, your kind explanation like a tour-guide with Seoul & Hongdae free maps for Seoul tour was brilliant. 100% satisfied, Thank you for everything~ I'll recommend pencil hostel to my friends.

My stay at Pencil Guesthouse was a very positive experience. I arrived a little earlier than expected and was able to store my luggage there until my bed was available. The next day, even though I wasn't staying, they let me leave my luggage there as well. The atmosphere was wonderful, and I felt very relaxed and secure. I will definitely stay there again. ^^

Well I would normally never leave a bad review. But: 1. The bed was terribly uncomfortable, you can feel the wires poking into you. 2. There was a bad smell, we found it was coming from rotten trash inside the cupboard (rotting fruit in a bag) 3. I pulled multiple long hairs off the matrass and my body in the morning. It was so bad I left a day early. It was really horrible. Sorry...

It was a nice hostel. I like the female only dorm rooms. Staff is wonderful and nice. No breakfast!! Don't fall for it! The bed sucks, very hard. Pretty far walk from the subway station, and in a dim-lit area.

The staff were friendly and the hostel was very clean and comfortable. It was also well-located close to the Hongdae district. Considering that we went just before New Year, there was a good atmosphere in the hostel.
