This hostel was great for someone on a budget, very close to the subway and cheap delis etc to grab dinner, the rooms are small but clean, bathrooms were clean but some were a bit scary so i recommend looking at all the bathrooms on your floor, only real negative was the humidity, no air conditioning and for a humid week in may the rooms were extremely hot!

I arrived at Jazz on Amsterdam on time; rang several times but nobody opened the door; luckily got in when another person arrived from outside with key. Showed front desk my reservation; was told I did not have a reservation there. (I had received 2 confirmation emails from Hostelworld.com about my reservation.) He said there had been two reservations for same bed and mine had been transferred to another hostel. He claimed manager informed me prior to departure; I didn't get email or a call.

The best hostel I\'ve ever stayed in NY. Very close to Central PArk, one block from subway station. Staff was sweet and helpfull. Very clean, nice rooms and beds, cool kitchen. I recommend and when back to NYC I\'ll stay with them again.

It is great location. May be bathrooms not perfect - but I usually got up at 7.30 - and it was OK. I will try to use this Hostel in a future! They have kitchen - that is great. And staff are very good.

I ended up staying most of the week in this hostel. It is basic and suited me well. I found the staff friendly and helpful. It is ideally located for subway, shops, access to Central Park and other sites. This was a strong point for me. I had a great trip and really enjoyed my stay overall in NYC.

This was the worst hostel Ive ever stayed in, and ive stayed in some rough hostels. 12 ROOMS WERE VACATED BC THE BUILDING WASNT UP TO CODE. DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU CAN AVOID IT! Theres a JAZZ ON CENTRAL PARK a few blocks away and it is much much nicer. Quiet hours were a major issue. After 12pm you either had to sit outside or go to your room and go to bed. COuldnt event sit in the lounge which was in the basement so noise shouldnt be an issue if you are UNDER GROUND. And it was DIRTY!

Really enjoyed my two-day stay at Jazz. Can\'t beat it the price for location, probably the cheapest price you\'ll find for a decent place well-located in Manhattan. Night staff were very helpful and friendly when I arrived.

I was very impressed with this place. It was my first time staying in a hostel, and wasn't sure what to expect but everyone I met was courteous, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. One note I would make to prospective visitors is to be sure to bring some kind of white noise maker - the building is extremely quiet, and you can hear every door that opens and shuts all night long. Having a fan on would have softened the overall atmosphere for me!

The showers/toilets in the six-person room were HORRIBLE. Sound-proofing was also bad comparatively to other hostels.

Stayed 1-night in a 6-bed female dorm ensuite: room was small but cleanliness was ok. Wouldn't want to stay here more than 1-2 nights. The stack beds must be the cheapest ones from IKEA so whenever someone below or above you turns, you'll be awakened. I just hate that in most of the hostels, the low quality stack beds. Quite banging and slamming doors in the corridors, this is always a big con. The kitchen (as the only common area) is not very cosy. Very few cutlery in the kitchen.

we found staff very rude. the building is too bad and ancient. rooms are not so clean. we were at the 4th floor and we had to move to 3rd or 2nd for the toilets, because on the 4th they were very very poor. what a mess! living and breakfast is decent, but you can't count only on these 2 things.

Deberían colocar cortinas en la habitación 102 porque rally no tiene y pasa toda la luz durante la noche e interrumpe el sueño continuamente. Debería haber mas sillas en el comedor, De resto todo bien Ok.

The nice thing about this hostel is that it doesn't really feel like a hostel as it's relatively small.Cleanliness etc. is average. I didn't really like that cleaning staff comes into your room and throws things away that they consider garbage. All in all a nice hostel, located in one of the nicest parts of the Upper West Side, really close to Central Park, and also Riverside Park. Relatively expensive though. They'll charge you additional tax, PLUS BED TAX, which I have NEVER heard of before.

This hostel is one of the best I experienced in NYC. I had some security issues with someone in my room, and the staff handled it expertly. They even got me a new room in the middle of the night, and consoled me. Also, the hostel has a mini-cafe inside which is fairly cheap and extremely handy. Please go to the comedy show, if you're there, there were SO many comics, and it was really funny (and hey, it's free!). The location is quite north, but you're in Manhattan and right by the park. Go!

I made a mistake choosing a mixed room even though that was my only choice at the moment since everything else was booked. I was stock in a room with an older Asian man who was pretty scary and made crazy noises all night long (coughing, moaning, talking in rage, burping, etc). I didn\'t get any sleep, I was truly scared. When I talk to the front desk staff in the morning, they told me the man had insomnia problems and that he was coughing over the food earlier. They said he checks in and out
