Dont expect too much, but if you consider that all.of NY is super expensive then it doesn't seem so bad. Location was good as it was very close to the #1. All the female staff were rude and didn't seem to care, the male staff were fine. Shared showers were pretty bad on level 3. No pressure. The free breakfast helped -better than nothing!

Staff was not paying attention when we arrived. Nothing seems to be cleaned, but the kitchen in the entrance. The shower, toilets, restrooms... were dirty during the 3 days. We did not have towels, as offered by the website, neither wifi (it was not included, to be paid).

The staff is unhelpful and rude. They run out of towels and I being told that I had to wait for the next batch, I waited for 2 hours and the towels never arrived. The shared bathrooms are not cleaned every day so be prepared. The bathroom sink only had hot water and pipe below was leaking badly. The shower was partially blocked so the water was going very slowly, disgusting. The rooms are pretty noisy, not a problem for me but be aware. I found hairs on my bed sheets when I first arrived.

Never again. We went down to the reception to extend or stay and they said yes but we couldn't check in yet. We spent the day In the city and went back to check in. We went to our room and it was dirty. No beds were made, rubbish everywhere and bathroom was not clean. The guy at reception gave us sheets but the rest had to be done the next day. We spoke to the manager then next day to get our money back and all he would give us was a 10% discount.

This was my first time staying in a hostel and I would defiantly come again. The location was perfect, room was up to standards for what you pay for, bathrooms we in perfect working order and clean. Although there was no free WiFi, paying the small amount for it was not a problem as it worked 100%. The staff were friendly and always willing to assist. Thanks Jazz on Amsterdam, I had a great stay!

If you are coming to visit Columbia upper west side is fine, else its a tad boring. The metro connection is fine though! The staff sat the mood they weren't very engaging, so the atmosphere and the hostel spirit was kind of lacking even though the hostel had all the facilities necessary to create a great hostel!

The staff were pretty unhelpful and unfriendly, got treated to listening to a long discussion about one of the staff members court hearing/paternity tests while waiting to be served as she spoke on her phone for 5 minutes! Bathrooms weren't great and people smoked inside which was unpleasant! But great location!!! The free breakfast was useful (though no drinks were provided). Overall, worth staying there for the location and awesome store around the corner, could definitely be worse.

Clean towels and simple breakfast provided. Free WiFi only in kitchen, up in room you need to pay $3/24hrs. Room 302 is for two with bunk beds.Dented scruffy locker in room with 3 small compartments. No way two to fit your stuff in them so you need to leave rest of luggage out in room unsecured. The radiator is filthy and the room is extremely noisy as window is without insulation. Shared bathroom window is not covered so from opposite building they can see as you use toilet or shower.

The hostel is very well situated near Central Park and two subway lines and the breakfast is pretty nice (muffins or bagels with coffee/tea) however the rooms are not comfortable (terrible beds) with no furniture to speak of ! it was also very cold and extremely noisy, don't forget your earplugs !!!! The bathrooms were dirty ans some shower heads didn't work properly. If you can afford it, don't go there !

nothing special. just a place to stay in nyc. watch out for the tax you have to pay on arrival that isn't included in the final price you see on hostel world.

Actually, this is one of my favorite hostels, for it's location, other guests, cleanliness, and value. Here's the dilemma: It's not dirty, like the YMCAs, with bedbugs, nor will the staff steal. The manager is honest, fair, and hard-working, keeping up with renovations. But, there are 2 staff who will say, "Are you here again? Everybody hates you", , or "I'm pregnant. I can't lift a finger to help", to a blind, elder in a wheelchair. You might have to call the police repeatedly to get service.

Horrible! No hot water, bathrooms disgusting, sleepless nit with all the noises and the cold. The only good thing was the free muffin in the morning.

The place is fine for a few nights stay. I think a price more like $40 would be better.

The first night it was not possible to sleep as a terrible noise was coming from the heating. One of the toilette was in a terrible state. The room was completely empty. Just the beds and the lockers. Not even a chair. The WiFi was supposed to be free but in fact you have to pay. Other than the taxes you should add a fixed amount of money for each day (I think it was 3.5$) for cleaning and towels.

Excellent localization, and a very good breakfast. Though, it looks more like a bad hotel than a good hostel. It's a very old building, and not very welcoming. It's the more expensive hostel I ever paid for. I would at least expect free wifi and/or free internet access, but they rip you off for that too. Even if they had to charge, $6 for 1 hour of internet is unacceptable. Yet, I still recommend it. Maybe NY is not a good place for hosteling at all.

Cool Location. The bathroom wasn't the best... As well as the old elevator, I chose to use the stairs tough I was in the 4 th floor, hehe. But It'll be almost the best price you'll get in Manhattan. The good thing is that they offer towels and directions right away. I 'd recommend it.
