The queen of Welsh resorts

Llandudno was built in the mid-nineteenth century as a planned seaside resort, and it has kept its Victorian look: a long curving promenade of cream-painted hotels, a pier stretching into the bay and wide streets behind.

Above it rises the Great Orme, a limestone headland with wild goats, a nature reserve and a copper mine worked 4,000 years ago. A tramway has climbed it since 1902.

Llandudno is also the best base for Conwy, a walled town with one of Edward I's UNESCO-listed castles, fifteen minutes away. Two days is right.
