Promenade
First-timersAlong the bay.

A Victorian seaside resort under the Great Orme, a limestone headland with a tram, a cable car and a Bronze Age copper mine. The longest pier in Wales, and Conwy's castle fifteen minutes away.
Llandudno was built in the mid-nineteenth century as a planned seaside resort, and it has kept its Victorian look: a long curving promenade of cream-painted hotels, a pier stretching into the bay and wide streets behind.
Above it rises the Great Orme, a limestone headland with wild goats, a nature reserve and a copper mine worked 4,000 years ago. A tramway has climbed it since 1902.
Llandudno is also the best base for Conwy, a walled town with one of Edward I's UNESCO-listed castles, fifteen minutes away. Two days is right.
Stay on or near the promenade.

Ride the Great Orme Tramway, running since 1902, to the summit, or take the cable car. Walk the Marine Drive round the headland, looking out for the Kashmiri goats.
The Great Orme Mines are the largest known prehistoric copper mines in the world, and you can walk through the tunnels.
Walk the pier, the longest in Wales, and the promenade.
Conwy, fifteen minutes away, has a castle, complete town walls you can walk on, and the smallest house in Britain on the quay.
The promenade, the pier, the beaches and walking on the Great Orme are free.
Conwy's town walls are free to walk.
Llandudno has fish and chips on the promenade, afternoon tea in the Victorian hotels, and pubs in the town. Conwy is known for its mussels.
A pub meal is £12 to £16.
Llandudno is quiet at night, with pubs and a few bars in town.
A pint is £4.50 to £5.50.
The town is walkable. Trains run from Llandudno Junction to Chester, Manchester and Holyhead, with a branch into Llandudno.
Buses reach Conwy in about fifteen minutes.
Llandudno is mid-priced. A careful day is £40 to £55.
The costs that add up are the tram, the mines and Conwy Castle.
The currency is the pound sterling. Cards work almost everywhere, including contactless on buses.
Llandudno is very safe.
On the Great Orme, stay on the paths; the cliffs have sheer drops.
