We are only weeks away from 2019, and people are starting to think ahead about where they will be when the clock strikes twelve. While massive celebrations are held all over the world, one of the most famous and fantastic cities in the world in terms of New Year’s Eve celebrations is the amazing New York City. If you’re looking for a great place to spend the final moments of the year, look no further. Here’s a few tips of how to survive New Year’s Eve in the Big Apple.

1. Times Square

It would of course be crazy to leave this one off the list. All around the world people will be partying into the night, but perhaps the biggest and most famous is the celebration that takes place each year in New York City’s incredible Times Square. As you soak up the atmosphere beneath the billboards boasting some of the greatest musical theatre talent in the world, seeing the ball drop to ring in the New Year is definitely on most people’s bucket lists.

2. Clubs/Parties

For those less inclined to attend the massive Times Square shin dig, almost everywhere you look you’ll see a New Year’s party going on. Every club, every restaurant (okay that might be an exaggeration but you get my point!) While not the cheapest city in the work, New York has some incredible hostels, and the friendly staff will certainly point you in the direction of the best local, more off the beaten track festivities.

3. Street Food

New York is a gigantic city, with people from all over the planet mixing and sharing their culture, it’s pretty easy to find incredible street food from almost anywhere you could ever think of! Because of the massive celebrations and parties going on across the 5 boroughs, often the quickest and best source of a hot meal is the abundant and delicious street food.

4. Concerts

The city that never sleeps stays true to its motto during the New Year celebration. Catch all kinds of bands and musical performers all over the city, with some of this year’s highlights being artists such as Jimmy Buffet and Huey Lewis, and They Might Be Giants. TimeOut New York have a lot of tips for having a musical New Year in NYC.

5. Subway

With one of the best public transport systems in the world, New York City will not let you down on one of the busiest nights of the year! As well as all the regular buses, the subway trains run until 3 a.m – plenty of time to enjoy the night without having to rush home as soon as the clock strikes 12.

6. Dress Warm

New York winters are legendary. It’s easy to forget how cold it really gets while out partying amongst so many other people. Don’t get caught in a shivering situation! Make sure you dress for the frigid temperatures!
