Brussels is not only the capital of Belgium but also of Europe! The city is an architectural wonder and during the winter when it snows, Brussels becomes enchanting.

Because there are so many great places to eat in Brussels and lots of delicious local products, among the suggestions on how to spend Christmas in Brussels, we also added a few of our favourite spots to have a coffee or snack!

1.Winter Wonderland & the Christmas Market

This is an opportunity to discover the city in a magical way and friendly atmosphere. Lights, music, scents, flavours, delicious food and entertainment will get you in the Christmas mood.

With over 230 chalets of local and international artisans, Brussels Christmas market is one of Europe’s largest and each year attracts thousands of visitors from around the world.

This Winter Wonderland stretches over 2.5km through the Grand Place, the Bourse, Place Ste Catherine, the fish market and Henri Maus and Bouse-de-Brouckère streets.

Visit the Grand-Place to do a little Christmas shopping in the chalets around the square and enjoy some local goods such as beer, waffles, chocolates, pralines and of course the famous French fries that will delight foodies!

On the Grand Place you can also check out the huge illuminated Christmas tree (over 20 meters high!). Given by the city of Riga, the tree is the centre of a light & sound show every day from 5:30pm to 10pm (each session lasts 30 minutes).

Each year a different country is in the spotlight and this year Tunisia is the Winter Wonderland’s special guest.

2.Christmas Lights: A Christmas story

‘Christmas Lights’ is a 360° light show that shares the beautiful story of the Palais de la Bourse in the heart of the European capital. Expect to immerse yourself in Brussels’ impressive history with a snowy backdrop and amazing special effects! Join the performances every evening from 4pm to 10pm. Each session lasts 20 minutes.

3.Outdoor Ice Rink

To warm up and show off your skater talents on the huge outdoors ice rink, located in the heart of Brussels, Place de la Monnaie. When you’re tired of skating sit back and relax on the heated terrace where they serve local beers and hot drinks and food from the Brasserie too. The ice rink transforms into an ice-disco dance floor, stage for shows and extreme sports track – so make sure you take a look at the upcoming events.

4.Ferris Wheel

Hopelessly romantic or maybe one for the kids, check out the carousel in St. Catherine Place before joining the the marché au Poisson and taking a ride on the huge Ferris Wheel (55 meters high!). It is the best way to admire the city lights, take amazing cityscape photos and see the light show on the Grand Place from the sky!

5.Christmas Village in Liège

From November 28th 2015 to December 30th, 2015 | Admission: Free| Liège

Just an hour away from Brussels, discover the oldest Christmas Market of Belgium. The 200 stalls offer every imaginable seasonal product: A great opportunity to find the perfect gift. The Christmas Market of Liège is a village with 4 houses to explore: Le Chalet de la Gruyère, La Maison ardennaise, La Maison du Pèket et le Chalet “Au pied des pistes”. There’s also a luge track, and an ice rink.

6.New year’s Eve Fireworks

Brussels is also a fantastic place to be for New Year’s Eve. At midnight there’ll be a huge fireworks display on the Place de Brouckère!

The festivities for New Year’s Eve in Brussels will start on the 31st of December on Place de Broukère. A 60m² screen will broadcast live tweets and you can share selfies and real-time photos of the event via an app.

DJ’s will play live until midnight, when the fireworks will start, and come back after to continue the show until 1am on the 1st of January 2016.

1.The foodie option: Le Rabbasier

If you want to have a taste of the best cuisine in Brussels, try the Rabassier. The service is topnotch and the decor too. It’s a real mix of classic and modern.

2.The quick fix: Tonton Garby

6 Duquesnoy Less than 10€/person

Just a few steps from the Grand Place, Tonton Garby is an amazing sandwich shop. The sandwiches are good, but what makes Tonton Garby an incredible place, is Garby himself! He’s super smiley and he’s happy to share his thousands of stories and secrets about the city!

3. The sweet break: Aux Merveilleux de Fred

Belgio, Grasmarkt Straat 7 2,75€ each

If you’ve never had a Merveilleux, imagine eating a cloud. It’s soft, light and oh, so sweet! The Merveilleux is a meringue, with whipped cream with shavings of chocolate, coconut, caramel… and it’s amazing! If eating a cloud doesn’t turn you on (crazy person), then try a Cramique, brioche bread with many flavours! Fred bakes the best Merveilleux in Brussels since 1985, this is the perfect spot if you have a sweet tooth!

4.The coffee stop : Askum Coffee House

Rue des Eperonniers/Spoormakersstraat 60 For a few euros you can drink one of the best coffees in Brussels, eat a delicious cake and sip a great baobab juice! This Ethiopian café is amazing, the atmosphere is friendly and the service is great. If the weather is nice, sit on the terrace where you can people watch.
